Which studio will pick it up?

Bloody-Disgusting has obtained information that says while attending the American Film Market, Lionsgate International will begin pre-sales on "Silent Hill 2," the sequel to the 2006 video game adaptation from director Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf).

A sequel was planned ever since the 2006 original hit, and hit big. With a budget of 50 million the first Silent Hill raked in over 100 million, so yeah a sequel is planned. Unfortunately, for the horror movie franchise, movement with the sequel fell silent (see what I did there:) after Writer Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction) crashed his car in 2008 while driving drunk, killing his close friend and seriously injuring his wife. Avery was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and did a year in the hole.

Avery was released in August and has since finished the script. Radha Mitchell has expressed interest in returning for the sequel but has not signed the dotted line making it official yet.

I'm happy there is some traction again but not happy with the direction SH2 is going in. It should be called SH3 because that's the game it's being modeled after from what I've read.

SH2 is the best survival horror game ever... writing/story, mood, vision... it had it all. Too bad no James Sunderland in this film or if he's in it he'll be probably used as a minor character. A SH2 movie adaption if done right could really be an amazing movie. Could bring some serious credibility to this genre where a lot of movies have failed.

And as much as I like her, Radha Mitchell should not return. SH is an anthology that covers different parts of a huge resort town. Aside from newspaper clippings and possibly a picture hanging on a wall every now and then is all the reference to past characters that is needed. But when do they ever follow a successful format? Sadly never.

Scion I doubt this will be about the same littler girl and all that jazz, that story closed and ended. I think they'll pick up a different character for it considering like what you said, plenty of different things happened in the town, it's not just one person causing the chaos.

Though calling it Silent Hill 3 and it being the second sequel...that doesn't make much sense despite which game sequel they base it off of.

That was sarcasm, i didn't want them to actually call it SH3. Never thought I'd have to explain that. Ever.

it did everything perfect from the game.

@Scion...LOL! Liked your retort! I loved SH, the game AND the film...so, a sequel is great news to me! I took my ten year old to the theatre to see this, prior to me ever having played the game, and, altho he loves horror films and has seen many, this one really disturbed him. Due to the little girl and everything she went through. As a result, I decided to play the game. And LOVED it!

@Scion
I agree about SH2.
The ending was brilliant, a complete twist, with James I mean.
In that game Silent Hill is a place you go to torture yourself for your crimes, rather than being a real place.
It's kind of like Limbo, and Pyramid head is kind of like judgment personified. The story is deeper than the others, and would make the best translation to film IMO.

Sh1 and Sh3 are following the same storyline though, you play as the daughter Cheryl (called Heather now) from the first game/movie.
So that might be why they're are making it after 3.

patriautism- Hmmm... then maybe they'll use SH2 for the trilogy finale if this sequel ever gets done in a profitable way. As much as the first one at least.

BTW, i'm doing the third and last sketch as we speak! ;)

Yeah because I can definitely catch the tone in text format jack ass. Excuse me if I just assumed you were some half wit kid screwing around on the computer. That was sarcasm if you didn't catch that.

It was shocking how much better the first one was than game based films usually are. I enjoyed it.

I really think I could get into a sequel, so let's hope this pans out.

Love this movie, even got my wife to watch it and she hates horror movies. She actually enjoyed it. Don't know how they would do a sequel to the first movie, the town folk all got ripped apart.
