Slappy Returns With Some Friends In First Trailer For GOOSEBUMPS 2: HAUNTED HALLOWEEN

Halloween has come to life in the first trailer for Sony's Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, based on R.L. Stine's series of books. But not all of these creatures are the classic monsters we're used to.

Slappy is back and this time he's brought some friends.

Sony has released the first trailer for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween and in it, we see tons of Halloween creatures come to life, including witches, ghouls, werewolves, and... gummy bears? Okay, so the last one isn't necessarily considered a classic Halloween monster, but as the trailer shows, they can be quite terrifying in their own right.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is based on R.L. Stine's series of horror fiction books geared towards children. The sequel to 2015's horror-comedy seems to follow a similar premise as a trio of kids discover a book that was never meant to be found titled Haunted Halloween. Once they open it, all hell breaks out as various creatures from Stine's 62 books — which have combined to sell over 400 million copies worldwide — come to life, including a CGI gorilla that looks like it's straight out of Rampage.

You may have noticed that Jack Black, who starred in the first film, is nowhere to be found in this trailer. It's unclear if he will return as R.L. Stine in the movie, though it was announced at CinemaCon that he is reprising his role as Slappy.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween opens in theaters October 12. What did you think of the trailer?

@MosquitoFarmer - I watched that and Goosebumps. Paramount is actually adapting the show into a movie:

@MosquitoFarmer - As a kid, the episode that always scared me most was the secret pool hidden in the school locker rooms or something and there was that red ghost monster thing, lol I think they ended up killing it with chlorine or something XD

@MosquitoFarmer - loved this show. I don't want to watch it again to ruin nostalgic feeling I get because I know the visuals won't hold up

@MosquitoFarmer - I was never really into the Goosebumps books but I was a big Hardy Boys fan as a kid so on Halloween I would usually pull this book out.

@MosquitoFarmer - The Ghastly Grinner? Oh yeah. I can't remember if I ever finished watching it, but he was terrifying. Especially with that disturbing power of his.

That CGI gorilla is the abominable snowman. Could very well be Rampage’s spare parts.

@marvel72 - The first one was actually good. Surprisingly good. This one feels more hollow than one of Disney's early 2000s direct-to-dvd sequels.

I've been super excited for this, but this was... Very underwhelming. Ever since they changed it from Horrorland, got a new director, and revealed that Jack Black, Odeya Rush (which upsets me the most), Dylan Minnette, and Ryan Lee aren't returning, I've been wary. The fact that they're reusing the Werewolf of Fever Swamp, the Abominable Snowman, Lawn Gnomes, Prince Khor-Ru, Scarecrows, Jack-O-Lanterns, and Count Nightwing is nice but... I'd rather them not reuse monsters (save for Slappy), and instead use ones we haven't seen like Curly the Skeleton, Cuddles the Hamster, and the Beasts from the East. I THINK I saw what was the second Haunted Mask, the ghost from Ghost Beach, and a Horrorland Horror, but I doubt those are them. I like the house at the beginning though, not only do I see it often (they filmed this about an hour away from where I live), but it gives me Welcome to Dead House vibes which is awesome. Plus, it looks scarier. It is disappointing that they're just using witches and gummy bears instead of monsters from the books, but that weird lookin' swamp monster with lobster claws looks AWESOME, even if I don't know what book it's from if it's from one at all. All in all... I like more than I don't like in this, and I still have a glimmer of hope, but overall... I dunno. Something just feels... Off.

I liked the first one but this one just feels so detached from an invested story. Like it's there for the visuals and the gags alone.
