After his raucous co-lead role in The Lighthouse and brief supporting appearance in The Northman, Deadline (via FearHQ.com) reports that Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man: No Way Home) is set to reunite with Robert Eggers for the director's long-planned remake of classic vampire tale, Nosferatu.
Eggers is also writing the script, with Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus producing.
Lily Rose-Depp, Bill Skarsgard and Nicholas Hoult are already on board for the main roles. No information on Dafoe's character was provided.
The Northman star Anya Taylor-Joy was originally in line for the female lead, but was forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. Harry Styles was also said to have read for the role of Hutter, who will now be played by Hoult.
This latest take on the silent 1922 horror flick is described as "a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him."
Coincidentally, Dafoe actually played Max Schreck, a fictional take on the actor who portrayed the titular vampire in F. W. Murnau's film, in black comedy/horror Shadow of the Vampire back in 2000. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his chilling turn.
No release date has been announced, but production is expected to get underway later this year.
