THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER - Chilling First Posters For David Gordon Green's Horror Sequel Released

After a low-quality version was shared online this morning, three posters for David Gordon Green's upcoming sequel to William Friedkin's horror classic The Exorcist have been released...

Pazuzu is back, and this time he's doubled-up on demonic possession.

There was a lot of excitement for David Gordon Green's Exorcist sequel after the director's first Halloween movie was released, but after the trilogy concluded with divisive entries Kills and Ends, it's fair to say fans are a little more apprehensive.

Even so, the CinemaCon teaser seemed to go over pretty well with those in attendance, and the first posters, which have now been officially released after being spotted at San Diego Comic-Con earlier today, go some way towards recapturing the chilling tone of the original.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but we do know that Leslie Odom Jr. plays the father of a young girl who goes missing in the woods with a friend. When both children wind up being possessed, he calls in Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) for help.

We're assuming the unfortunate kids are featured on these one-sheets.

The movie also stars Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett, Raphael Sbarge, Jennifer Nettles and Olivia Marcum. A recent report claimed that Linda Blair would also reprise the role of Regan MacNeil, but that's yet to be confirmed.

Widely considered one of the scariest movies ever made, William Friedkin's The Exorcist focused on a possessed young girl (Blair) and her mother's (Burstyn) attempts to free her from the grip of the demon with the help of two priests (Jason Miller and Max Von Sydow).

Of course, the movie already has two sequels. The first, John Boorman's surreal The Heretic, was critically panned and actually had very little to do with the events of the first film. However, William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist III (based on his novel Legion) was a lot better, and served as a more direct follow-up to the 1973 classic.

Halloween Ends was the only good movie (a great one, in fact) in the entire new Halloween trilogy, hoping he brings more of the boldness that represented to this table

@Cap1 - Loved Ends as well, but I wouldn't say it's the only good movie.

Imo they got progressively better with each entry. The first was interesting, even if I didn't care for the direction they took with Laurie. Kills was a lot of fun (don't understand the criticisms at all), and Ends was just *chef's kiss*

I'm incredibly excited for their take on an Exorcist sequel.

@Cap1 - Huh? Ends was dogshit.

@SheepishOne - yeah that’s fair. I was a big critic of Kills, but maybe if I rewatched with the perspective of ‘it’s meant to be completely ludicrous and silly’ then i’d like it more. Ends took me completely by surprise, such a huge swing, loved that movie. Corey was a wonderful addition

@Cap1 - I loved the sort of reverse-Frankenstein's-monster of Kills, and how the story wasn't about Michael at all but about his influence on Haddonfield.

And then Ends was this almost anthological approach to a horror story set in Haddonfield but focusing more on the evil within rather than a straightforward Michael Meyers story. It even had the title card font of Season of the Witch upfront to tell you that it wasn't what you were expecting. I also felt it was the logical thematic direction the story should go. H18 was about Michael's effect on Laurie, Kills was his effect on Haddonfield, and Ends was his effect on a seemingly random resident of Haddonfield that didn't have a direct involvement with Michael. I thought using Corey as the antagonist was a pretty brilliant and fresh way to tell the story of The Shape.

I do understand criticisms that making it about the evil within Michael, it sort of takes responsibility away from Michael as a murderer. But I thought it was still a really interesting take on the story, and it ended up being one of my favorite horror films of the year. Maybe my second favorite entry in the franchise.

@Cap1 - I wasn't a fan of ends. I see where they wanted to go, but I feel like the horror elements of Halloween were not there.

I love it as a send-off to Jamie Lee Curtis/Laurie Strode. The final scene made everything for me with the shots in the house and outside. They did the same for the first Halloween, except you could hear Michael's breathing, meaning he was still out there. But this one, you hear no breathing. Being a Halloween fan myself, it touched the heart strings.

Kills is Myers going super Saiyan and I love it. Has cringe moments for sure but it's a Halloween film🤝

Ends is a terrible ending to a series that was erased entirely just to end it in a disastrous way💁

The concept was interesting but my god the execution was god awful. DGG had no idea how to end this film. Introduced stuff in it and didn't answer shit💁

Does Michael power up when he kills?

Is he human or?........

Why is Laurie acting like nothing happened after kills?💁 Michael killed like 30 people and is on the loose and now she is a homemaker but in 2018 she is Sarah Conner after he killed 4 people 40 years ago😑?

Nothing makes sense in ends. Nothing!

I thought those one sheets were pictures of Linda Blair from the original movie. Consistency at least.

David Gordon Greene is a bad director and and even worse storyteller. This will be awful.
