THE MEG Sequel Finds Its Director In KILL LIST And REBECCA Filmmaker Ben Wheatley

Yes, we're getting a sequel to The Meg from the director of A Field in England. Warner Bros. has enlisted none other than Ben Wheatley to helm the follow-up to 2018's prehistoric shark flick...

If you were surprised by Ben Wheatley's decision to take the helm of the upcoming Tomb Raider sequel, wait until you hear what he's lined up as his next project.

According to THR, Warner Bros. has enlisted the acclaimed British filmmaker to direct The Meg 2; a direct sequel to 2018's very silly, but very successful, giant shark movie.

Jason Statham is expected to reprise the role of rescue diver/prehistoric fish killer Jonas Taylor, but there's no word on whether fellow surviving Mana One crew members Li Bingbing, Cliff Curtis and Ruby Rose will be joining him.

The first movie's writing team (yes, it was a group effort) of Jon and Erich Hoeber and Dean Georgaris will work on the script.

Wheatley is best known for disturbing/surreal movies such as Kill List and High Rise, but the director did take a step closer to more mainstream fare with action flick Free Fire, and signed on to helm the sequel to 2018's Tomb Raider reboot last year. His remake of Rebecca is currently streaming on Netflix.

What do you guys make of this news? Were you fan of The Meg? Surprised to see Wheatley on board to direct the sequel? Drop us a comment down below.

@Reeds2Much - RESPECT THE MEG! Don’t listen to him, The Meg, The Reeds2Much Judy has constarrhea, it’s when you got diarrhea
but it don’t just squirt on out, it comes out slow and chunky and burns so bad you pass out. Record constarrhea dumps in a day? 11. 105 fever and IV, no lie, don’t know if it was red beans and rice Saturday or too much ginger on my hibachi Sunday, cuz two weeks later we ate the exact same thing Saturday aNd Sunday but enough about me!

I gotta say, normally i wouldn't think too much about this news, but the first meg is basically my 3rd grade niece's favorite movie. Its weird, its not even just that she likes it as an excuse for violence, like you'd imagine most kids would. No, she can actually take the story super seriously and will even go on about the backstories of all the characters who are clearly just there to be shark food.

So in short, im expecting to be hearing a lot about this when it comes out.

I kinda oddly enjoyed the Meg. Watched it one weekend with a few buddies.

A lot of the underwater stuff is pretty silly, but was pleasantly surprised how accurately they depicted submarine engineering and how they function under water.

I will continue to the ring the bell on how underrated Free Fire is. A very fun movie with a great cast.

If there are any readers out there I highly recommend the book series by Steve Alten. Great fun and inventive sequels that keep the storyline fresh.

Emmm... so what? They gonna tell us that there were more Megalodons that escaped from that layer with those two from the first movie?

First one had so much potential, soon as I heard Jason Statham say “it’s megaladon” then somewhere beyond the sea started playing in the trailer I knew where this film was going and it was a joke. Wish Eli Roth stayed on to direct

What a waste of an amazing Director.

Seriously, if you haven't watched any of his stuff, check out:

Kill List
A Field in England
High-Rise
Free Fire
and Rebecca which just hit Netflix the other day.

Dude's well regarded. Which is why I'm so baffled at this.

The first one was enjoyable for what it was and it was quite the success at the box office. Curious to see what the sequel brings
