Thomas Kretschmann Cast As "Evil" Van Helsing In NBC's DRACULA

Last week we found out that Arrow's Jessica DeGouw will play Mina in the upcoming series based on Bram Stoker's classic novel, now it seems she'll be joined by Kretschmann (King Kong) who funnily enough plays Dracula in Dario Argento's current movie version.

According to TV Line, NBC's Dracula series has found its Van Helsing in the form of King Kong/The Pianist actor Thomas Kretschmann. But there's a twist - it seems this take on the character won't be the heroic (if obsessed) vampire hunter we are used to in other adaptations. TV Line describe him as “a brilliant professor obsessed with revenge and power. He may be a greater threat to the public than the titular count.” This of course sets up Jonathan Rhys- Myers' Dracula as the anti-hero. They'll be joined by Katie McGrath (Merlin), Nonso Anonzie (Game of Thrones) and Jessica De Gouw (Arrow). The series will run for 10 episodes, and will follow Count Dracula's mission of revenge on the Victorian society responsible for "ruining his life" being interrupted by his love for Mina Harker, who he believes to be the reincarnation of his dead wife.

Hehehehe, that's funny.
Anyone who's read Dracula will know that Van Helsing does practically nothing, and that his role has been SERIOUSLY blown out of proportion. Arthur Holmwood and John Seward contribute more than Van Helsing, but where are their spin-offs and expanded appearances?

Anyway, that aside, this sounds silly.

Arrow just got renewed for a second season, so I guess Oliver will be moving on from Huntress now that she's committed to this show.

WTF we are going to have a sensitive Dracula what a load of crap. Dracula is pure evil and if anyone has read Bram stokers Dracula or the Historian he's not meant ti be a good guy or misunderstood, why don't they swap the character roles by having Van Helsing as the protagonist and Dracula as the antagonist, just more twilight or vampire diaries shite.

Even when Oldman played him you could see because of the terrific acting that he was once a hero who lost his way but he didn't redeem himself by all of a sudden saying oh sorry for 400 years worth of killing he became even more evil and by letting nothing stand in his way because he thought he was above humans. Sorry but Dracula and the Historian are 2 of my favorite books, I know a lot of ppl won't have heard about the Historian but it's a kind of sequel to Bram Stokers Dracula.

Good guys are so 20th century passé. Modern audiences want to see the line between heroes and villains erased completely

1: Dracula
2: A&E's "Bates Motel"
3: CW's planned "The Originals"

and surely more to to come... Villains are chic these days

The best way to go would have been a tv series based on Marvel,s "TOMB OF DRACULA" horror comic which ran 70 issues.
