Toxie Is Mean, Green, And Violently Fighting Crime In New Trailer For Unrated THE TOXIC AVENGER

We're ending the week with a new look at filmmaker Macon Blair's take on The Toxic Avenger, and this trailer is every bit as gloriously unhinged as fans of Toxie would hope! You can check it out here...

The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released in October 2023. Things went quiet after that, though reviews from various film festivals heaped praise on filmmaker Macon Blair's take on Toxie (in fact, with 25 verdicts counted, it still sits at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes).

A full trailer for the movie has been released (via FearHQ.com), and there's plenty of unhinged violence and a level of craziness that promises to make this another cult classic. Whether it has widespread appeal is another matter, but it likely didn't cost much to produce and stands a good chance of making a tidy little profit.

Back to those reviews, and much of the praise heaped on The Toxic Avenger is featured heavily in the second half of this latest sneak peek. And yes, that's not a lie: this movie will release "unrated."

While Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage lends his voice to Toxie, Luisa Guerreiro, an actor and movement artist, donned the extensive makeup and prosthetics for the character's physical performance.

Discussing Guerreiro's physical transformation, Blair has said, "The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature, with some influence from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon's look, while also trying to do something new and weird and lovable with Toxie's design."

"I love what Millenium FX did with it - part human, part mutant, all heart," he said of his take on a character who has starred in four movies, an animated series, a video game, a stage musical, and even a Marvel Comics series.

"It's practical effects. You can see all the goopy little boils and stuff like that," Blair teased. "And we definitely stayed true to some of the really iconic elements: the tutu that's melted onto his body, the janitor's mop as his super weapon."

Written and directed by Macon Blair, Legendary Entertainment's The Toxic Avenger is a contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment's 1984 cult classic of the same name, created by Lloyd Kaufman.

This movie's cast is led by Peter Dinklage in the title role. He'll be joined by Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon.

The Toxic Avenger follows struggling everyman-janitor Winston Gooze, who is transformed by a horrible toxic accident into a new evolution of hero: The Toxic Avenger!

Now with super-human strength and wielding a glowing mop for his unconventional weapon, he must race against time to save his son and stop a ruthless and power-hungry corporate tyrant bent on harnessing toxic superpowers to strengthen his polluted empire.

The Toxic Avenger arrives in theaters on August 29, 2025.

Dinklage may have made comments that cost OTHER little-people movie roles but nice to see that the Dinker himself is staying gamefully employed. 🫤

@SuperiorHeckler - Yup. I’m so glad that Peter Dinklage talked Disney out of hiring little people to play the dwarves in Snow White, so they could aspire to play more dignified roles like this one. 🙄

@Lisa89 - Regardless if the role is for a king or a jester, a paycheck is a paycheck. 💲💲💲

I can’t believe they height-swapped Toxie.

Yeah, definitely a weird turn for the character considering he's supposed to be a musclebound beast that towers over most people.

I haven’t seen any of the Toxic Avenger films or any other media related to the franchise & such so this is my first exposure to the IP…

I honestly think it looks kinda fun , maybe not entirely my cup of tea but i certainly appreciate the uniqueness & creativity that seems to be in this.

I especially like how it seems to be set in its own reality rather then our own with the rampant crime & corruption of lower budget 90’s superhero films like Darkman & The Crow etc.

I grew up with Toxie, I have to be there! I can't imagine this budget being that big, an easy 3x with potential for more sequels down the road. It's interesting Legendary paid for the overseas distribution, they trust the process

Movie doesn't look good but it is a more appealing trailer.
