As Universal Studios prepares to launch their upcoming Universal Monsters cinematic universe, which will feature contemporary reimaginings of iconic monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man, the studio has begun closing in on a particular celebrity to portray one of their most beloved monsters, the Bride of Frankenstein. This actress is none other than Angelina Jolie, who has starred in countless film roles, some of which include Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider films and the titular character in Disney's Maleficent.

However, despite the studio's desire to have Jolie portray the pop culture icon, there may be a slight problem: Jolie is more reluctant to play the role than the studio would like. This is why Universal is backing the Angelina Jolie-directed film By the Sea, at least according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 1935 film, The Bride of Frankenstein, which introduced the famed character of the same name, is often considered to be the greatest of the classic Universal Monsters films, so it makes sense that the studio would want an A-list actress to portray the character in their upcoming shared universe films.

The cinematic universe will launch in 2017 with a reboot of The Mummy franchise that began in 1932. Reboots of Dracula, Frankenstein and Van Helsing are expected to follow. The universe will be overseen by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan.

Welcome, I am Darkknight2149. I am primarily a fan of comic books and their various adaptations, as well as horror and other classic film franchises.

As far as the "DC vs. Marvel" rivalry goes, I'm really not biased when it comes to studios and publishers. Preferences are fine, but I've never understood the basing of opinions purely by the studio/publisher that makes it.
