Warner Bros. has released the first trailer and poster for Unwelcome, a new horror flick from Grabbers director Jon Wright.

This looks quite a bit more serious than Wright's well-received 2012 sci-fi comedy, as a young couple (Ant-Man and The Wasp's Hannah John-Kamen and Jupiter Ascending's Douglas Booth) move to a house in the Irish countryside only to discover that the locals - both human and otherwise - are not the most welcoming.

They are warned to leave blood offerings out for the Red Caps, but when she forgets, the goblin-like creatures that live in the ancient forest at the bottom of the garden come calling.

The movie looks like the unholy offspring of Straw Dogs and Leprechaun, and might be worth a watch when it hits theaters next year. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.

UNWELCOME stars Hannah John-Kamen and Douglas Booth as a couple who escape their urban nightmare to the tranquility of rural Ireland only to discover malevolent, murderous goblins lurking in the gnarled, ancient wood at the foot of their new garden. Additional cast include Golden Globe nominee Colm Meaney, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Chris Walley and Kristian Nairn. Directed by Jon Wright, the film is based on an original screenplay by Mark Stay.

Believe it or not, some people over here are still very superstitious about the faerie folk. My uncle used to tell me crazy stories when I was a kid.

@RorMachine - I saw your tweet about this earlier today and ever since then i've wanted to watch it lmao.

Being from the US I actually met a few people from Ireland who've told me the same thing haha. Super interesting.

@Menks123 - I always thought it was just the older generation trying to scare us etc, but I lived in Cork for a couple of years in a little town surrounded by woods. One guy in the local pub - around my own age - used to swear he heard and saw some very strange stuff. I assumed he was just a bit nuts, but everyone I asked about it said he wasn't the only one. I don't necessarily believe any of it, but I tell ya, walking home from the pub tended to be a creepy experience after listening to him.

@RorMachine - I got told a story in Iraq from a guy that said he was sitting on his couch watching tv with his dog when he heard a noise at his door. After a while the noise got annoying so he got up to see what it was and it was his dog. For a moment he said he thought it was just a similar looking mutt but when he turned around to his couch the dog he was hanging with was missing. Dude swore up and down it was a jinn messing with him.

You notice how often horror movies are like "Lovely young couple leaves the horrors of the urban jungle for the tranquility of the countryside" and then they're tortured for like an hour and a half?

"Oh, this house? Lovely view of the lake, quiet, and a wonderful family of six was murdered in their sleep a hundred and sixty years ago and every year about the same time any family that moves in dies mysteriously. Did I mention the two car garage?" "We'll take it!"

"This decrepit hovel in the middle of the woods looks like a great place to hang out!"

Screw ya'll, I'll stay in the city.

This looks like the type of movie that has a really dumb plot, but is still enjoyable

@bkmeijer - doggone it last time, and it’s because I’m at work. Yeah I’m poopin but I’m still gettin paid, I don’t comment for free anymore:

I moved FROM a country house. Modern don’t get me wrong. A chain of events left me broke so I took the second house they showed me. First one had wallpaper HARD PASS. But the second one, and this is no joke:

Creepy
Shaded
Victorian
2 story shed
A sealed up well!
A PET CEMETERY!!
And bonus: a creepy old store on the corner of the property. Belongs to the city, some aldermen or somethin just bought it and they’ve been working on it, but boy I hit the haunted jackpot

@TheWalkingCuban - I would move outta there ASAP. Not just because it's the haunted jackpot, but... no, wait. Exactly because of that.

Or wait for the city wanting to buy the rest of the property and ask way above property value for it.

@bkmeijer - well I’m renting, 3 br 2 ba for 750 is unheard of so I’ll stick around til I can buy me a nice house (it’s a seller’s market they say)

Haunted wise, well, nothing so far. Besides on the first week, the owner fixed the hole in the closet ceiling. You could see straight up into the attic. I’m positive that’s where the ouija board was kept, or the Jumanji board, sadly I heard no drums so probably the former. Closed up anyway. No hellscape portals please, haven’t watched The Gate in decades and don’t feel like reliving it now.
