Will SUPERNATURAL Return For A Ninth Season?

CW network president Mark Pedowitz reveals that the future of Supernatural still hasn't been decided, but he does offer an idea of when fans should expect to hear the news of a possible renewal and confirms that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have already signed up for more.

At this point, it's inevitable that Arrow will return for a second season, but what does the future hold for long-running CW series, Supernatural? Talking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour earlier today, CW network president Mark Pedowitz had this to say about the possible return of the show for a ninth season. "No determination’s been made. We are pleased with how Wednesday night completely has worked out with Arrow being a bona fide hit and Supernatural actually gaining viewers back again. I think creatively the show’s in a great place and there’s always a good shot that [a renewal] could happen."

Series creator Eric Kripke only ever intended that Supernatural last five seasons, but despite now being on its eighth, the show still has a dedicated fan base. So, how long will those same fans have to wait for news on a possible renewal? "I would like to see our schedule come back on [with new episodes] next week, which we start on Monday and over the next couple of weeks we’ll make the determination on what will come back for next fall." However, he did confirm that the studio already has Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki "locked in" for future seasons, so it seems a fair bet that it will indeed return in the Fall. Stay tuned for updates!

So, who long will those same fans have to wait for news on a possible renewal?

i feel that waaay more ppl watch supernatural than Arrow.lots of my ppl that dont read comics never gave Arrow a chance bc they felt burned by Smallville.i hope they revisit Lucifer vs Michael. It'd be nice to see it judging from that glimpse into the future.

This is typical CW network, they will keep a garbage show like Arrow and XL a fan fav Supernatural, this is why I have stopped watching anything on this network, it is trash.

@JokerEl Supernatural is one of the most underrated shows on tv. Hell I even caught my mother watching it one time and she loves it. Damn sure is better than Smallville was.

@TheThing Sir, if you are a XL fan of the show you would know that this season should be the last in order for it to end on a high note and not drag on like Smallville did.

Bring back Gabriel and introduce God in the last episode = done. That's all I want, no need for 50 more seasons just introduce god already.

Watched this show up to like season 5, Im sure its still great, but i hope it ends b/c I have felt that Jensen Ackles is made for a good and big role in a CBM!

This show should've ended back with Sam dying and Dean moving on... Feel like they're just dragging it on now, the whole Leviathan shit was borderline laughable and I just haven't given a crap 2 carry on... Give it the dignity 2 go out decently unlike Smallville CW!

This has been, and still is one of my favorite shows on television! Actually just yesterday, I got my gf to start watching my season sets from the beginning. She took the first couple of seasons home with her and is now hooked on the series too! I too was worried, and wondered where they could possibly go after **spoiler alert** they stopped the apocolypse, but I must admit, I am loving the show just as much now as ever before! I hope it goes at least a full 10 seasons because IMO, it is the BEST show currently on basic network television! Hoping that when it's all said and done, I'll still have Arrow to look forward to. Another great show! If Supernatural doesn't get renewed, I can at least let the show go down as one of the most satisfying series I've ever had the honor to watch, and thank them for every last second of joy they gave me!

Was one of the best shows on tv for 5 seasons then fell into a caricature of itself from season 6 onwards.

End it!

@TimL they pretty much all but said that Chuck was god. I want them to get back to the Judeo-Christian mythology stuff and go with what Death hinted at befre which was that he will eventually reap God.

And end it on their own terms, i don wanna see it drag out and then get canceled withoutan ending. They kinda lost me with the stupid Leviathan storyline (except for Bobby dying and becoming a ghost that was cool) and i wanna see the series end on a high note
