Ok, just to clear the air, World War Z is not a comic book but it is a BOOK and I'm putting the BOOK in comicBOOKmovie. Anyways, MTV is reporting that WW Z is moving forward with Brad Pitt to star.

From Slashfilm

The news comes from World War Z author Max Brooks, who says that the film is currently slated for a summer 2012 release. Marc Forster is still supposed to direct.
“I can’t believe how cool Paramount has been to me and these projects, and how cool Plan B has been,” Brooks said, referring to Brad Pitt’s production company.

Here is the plot synopsis from the book

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet. He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living, or at least the undead, hell of that dreadful time. World War Z is the result. Never before have we had access to a document that so powerfully conveys the depth of fear and horror, and also the ineradicable spirit of resistance, that gripped human society through the plague years.
Ranging from the now infamous village of New Dachang in the United Federation of China, where the epidemiological trail began with the twelve-year-old Patient Zero, to the unnamed northern forests where untold numbers sought a terrible and temporary refuge in the cold, to the United States of Southern Africa, where the Redeker Plan provided hope for humanity at an unspeakable price, to the west-of-the-Rockies redoubt where the North American tide finally started to turn, this invaluable chronicle reflects the full scope and duration of the Zombie War.
Most of all, the book captures with haunting immediacy the human dimension of this epochal event. Facing the often raw and vivid nature of these personal accounts requires a degree of courage on the part of the reader, but the effort is invaluable because, as Mr. Brooks says in his introduction, “By excluding the human factor, aren’t we risking the kind of personal detachment from history that may, heaven forbid, lead us one day to repeat it? And in the end, isn’t the human factor the only true difference between us and the enemy we now refer to as ‘the living dead’?

I personally enjoy these news, and I think having Brad Pitt starring will make things much more interesting. Brad Pitt has now become one of my favorite actor, leaving behind the pretty boy persona and choosing drama roles that distinguish him from well pretty boys like Tom Cruise. After Benjamin Button I have respect for the man.

I've grown a little tired of zombie movies, but I am intrigued by this. If the trailers look good I'll give it a shot.

I never read the book, but it sounds like a fresh new take on the zombie genre.

this is the best Zombie novel out there. period. i'm just wondering why they would need Pitt to be a star in it though, because no one in the book has a huge part.

I'm assuming Pitt will play the guy thats giving all the interviews to survivors. He's the only consistent character thats in the book. also, he doesn't kill a single zombie in the whole book.

for people that don't know, WWZ has no central story. Its about a guy that travels the world, AFTER the zombie apocalypse has already ended, and he gives interviews to random survivors. Every chapter in the book is a different short story about that particular survivor's experiences.

this movie needs to be done right if it is going to be any good. but if its done right, then it will be the best zombie movie of all time.

also, a long time ago, J. Michael Strazinski wrote the story for the movie. I don't know if thats the one they are going to use, but he finished the story 2 years ago or so.

This movie has been in production hell for years now, so i'm happy to see its moving forward, finally.

I met MAX BROOKS at the Motor City Comic-con and he was the COOLEST GUY EVER!!!!

Brooks is the man and his work is amazing. This movie DEFINITELY needs to happen.

I also recommend Brooks' current G.I. JOE "Hearts and Minds" comic book run. The dude's got skills!

Zombie movies are the best.

I envision this film just like they did the book. Like a documentary with Brad as the interviewer and it jumps around from interview to interview to follow along the time line of the attack. It can be extremely awesome. Especially the scene where all of the Hollywood types get massacred. That was a good time.

Love Max Brooks. I have both the Zombie Survival Guide and WWZ. The Zombie Survival Guide is easily the best hypothetical guide to really prepare for a zombie apocolypse not video games or movies. Its grounded a reality rather than people running around hacking heads off with machetes and firing ungodly amount of bullets.

I am another that has grown weary of zombie and infected human movies. Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland were about the only ones I could tolerate over recent years, otherwise they all seem about the same to me. This sounds somewhat different if they pull it off in the way that the book was written.

Awesome book!!!! I hope this works out.

@CDB- You hit the nail on the head. I'm interested to see how they invovle such a huge star like Brad Pitt into this story. Hope they do this one right!

The one scene I want to see more than any other is the approaching scores of zombies towards the soldiers with little to no noise heard and then over the loud speakers the music starts and...

"You'll take my life but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand there's no turning back

The bugle sounds as the charge begins
But on this battlefield no one wins
The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath
As you plunge into a certain death

OOOOHHHHHH!!! OOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!"

That scene gave me chills when I read the book.

yes, zombie movies might be played out, but only because most of the zombie movies are original stories that suck.

this is based off of one of the best zombie books of all time, if not THE best. so guys, believe me, you should be excited about this, even if you are tired of zombies.

@ cookie and Ecks

3 words: Battle of Yonkers. Can you guys imagine how cool they could make that scene in a movie??

seriously all you fanboys who comment on being sick of zombie movies are getting rather annoying. Do you even know what World War Z is about?

Shut up and do some research before you sum it up as a gorefest, survival, or action flick. If and then you still want to complain, then I have nothing to say...but to hunt you all down if and when the zombie apocalypse happens.
