The second season of Showtime's Yellowjackets concluded during the week with a heartbreaking finale, "Storytelling," and fans are still reeling from what will likely go down as one of the most shocking character deaths in TV history.

The episode was, unsurprisingly, full of twists and turns in both the present day and the 1996 wilderness timeline. In the latter, the big reveal comes when Nat (Sophie Thatcher), not Lottie (Courtney Eaton), is anointed as the group's "Antler Queen" after surviving the penultimate episode's attack by allowing poor Javi (Luciano Leroux) to die in her place when he fell through the ice.

Then, adult Nat (Juliette Lewis) is killed in the present timeline!

As the adult survivors return to their ritualistic ways after reuniting at Lottie’s (Simone Kessell) wellness community, Natalie ends up dying in a cruel twist of fate when she's stabbed by Misty's (Christina Ricci) lethal dose of phenobarbital. The needle was meant for Lottie's follower Lisa (Nicole Maines), who Natalie bonded with over the past few episodes and decided to act in a self-sacrificial attempt to save.

During an interview with THR, young Nat actress Sophie Thatcher was asked about her character's tragic journey.

"What’s so sad about her, especially out of all the characters, is that everyone has been battling their own demons, but Natalie has maybe had it the worst. And I think her surrendering and self-sacrificing was so sad, because there’s also so much bravery and a lot of admiration that I had for what she did. At first I read it as her giving up, but it’s so far from that because she’s already passed that threshold. She’s already done everything wrong that she can in life, that I think it’s the beginning of a new chapter for Lisa and the end of her chapter."

As arguably the biggest name in the cast, Lewis' departure came as a major surprise, and while some fans of the show have applauded the bold decision, others have been taking to social media to express their displeasure.

Whole season’s been a pale imitation of s1. Repetitive as [frick] n waaaay too much padding, could’ve been 5/6 episodes. Last episode was a farcical rush to the finish, just a complete mess. Penultimate ep tried to build tension around Natalie being hunted by the group, yet she’s alive in the present, so the tension was non-existent. Such an odd creative choice. Very disappointing follow up

Season 2?
I didn’t even know it had a season 1. What is this show about?
Kinda looks like a gender bent Lord of The Flies, unless there’s more to it? I’m genuinely curious.

@GetsugaTensho22 - The first season in excellent. Has some of the best needle drop, cliffhanger episode endings. Basically about a female soccer team who's place crashes in the middle of nowhere while they're teens. Takes place in two timelines: the present where they're living their lives and their past comes back to haunt them, and the past where they're stuck in the forest, doing anything to survive. It's really really cool.

But then season two happened. Some truly awful writing, plots going nowhere, some shitty acting and directing choices. A real shame what happened to the show.

I'd still heavily recommend season 1. And season 2, while shitty, is still worth a watch.

I did watch Season 1 but not much stuck with me. Always found it hard to track which girl was which in the past/present and the "plot armor" of seeing them alive in the future is always an issue, especially when the past stuff didn't even wrap up in season 1. Felt no compunction to return for season 2; sounds like an unexpected move, which can pay off, so long as they have a solid story beyond it (GoT) and not just doing it "because GoT is cool!" (Under the Dome).

I know nothing about this show. Dont think I've ever heard of it. That's a pretty bad promotional photo though. Half of them look like they just smelled a fart and the other half look like they are pretending it wasn't them that did it.

Season one was great, season two has been a complete mess. The finale really killed any future interesting for me which is a shame since the cast past/present storylines are all great.

The first season was fantastic but I agree - this second season was total [frick]ing shit and low key killed any excitement I have for this series going forward. The writing this season as CW levels of bad jfc what happened?’

Also; Shauna and Misty are as irredeemable as they come. Would rather one of them die over Natalie.

I enjoyed the hell out of season 1. The writing was great and it all felt fresh. We wanted to know what happened to the girls in the woods and how they turned to that dark place. They also made a big deal out of 'pit girl' and that seems all but forgotten.

Season 2 has been a mess though. I honestly don't know what story they're trying to tell anymore. Do they know themselves? Were they just suprised they got a season 2 and just winged it? So disappointing.

I will say however I loved most of the cast. Juliette Lewis was fantastic as well as her young counterpart. Young Shauna was fantastic as well I thought.

This show shouldve stopped dragging out the young years and wrapped it up quicker. Its just going to be more cannibal crap and hallucinations.

This show would be so much better if it actually embraced the supernatural fully and went a little nuts. Or a tame verson like HBO's The Outsiders on how to portray supernatural in the real world.
