BOX OFFICE: Ok, So NOW It's Official. IRON MAN 3 Grosses $1 Billion Worldwide

We knew this was going to happen yesterday and some sites even preemptively reported Iron Man 3 as having grossed $1 billion before theatres closed their doors for the day! Well, it's now 100% official; the latest movie from Marvel Studios has become only the 16th ever to reach the landmark number.

We have today learned that Iron Man 3 has officially grossed over $1 billion worldwide. It now joins the likes of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Toy Story 3, The Dark Knight Rises, Skyfall, and Marvel's The Avengers as one of only 16 films to accomplish such an impressive feat. The Shane Black helmed threequel has grossed $697.8 million overseas since being released and $301.9 million in North America. With Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hangover Part III and Fast And Furious 6 all set for release this month, the movie will start to drop lower and lower down the charts, but there's still a long way to go and many believe it will ultimately earn upwards of $1.2 billion. For now, we'll just have to wait and see. How many times have you seen Iron Man 3 so far?

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

STARRING:

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin
Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts
Don Cheadle as Rhodey/War Machine
Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian
Rebecca Hall as Dr. Maya Hansen
Ashley Hamilton as Jack Taggert

Funny how you can claim a Man of Steel will be better than Iron Man 3, when the movie isn't even out yet. Plus, many of you are quick to call Zack Snyder a terrible director, and it's been confirmed by pretty much by everyone, even Nolan, that Nolan had little involvement with the film, so you can't really pull the "Nolan card". You can't even pull a "Goyer card" because his writing is honestly on and off, never just great.
Now I'm not trashing Man of Steel, I really want to watch it, and think it will be good, but I'm not going to say "Iron Man 3 is the better of the two", as if it's fact, as many of you do with Man of Steel.
Anyways, the two films look too different to even be comparing. Neither one's differences make them superior to the other.

@Bboiblack Wtf is wrong with you? This movie is a huge success. It only had a 58% drop on it's second weekend. Lol that's lower than the Avengers, which blew both TDKR and TDK out of the water. I loved TDKR by the way I don't know why so many people give it flack.

Marvel finally got a solo film pass the billion dollar mark. Congrats. Now you guys can brag. All that Avengers bragging didn't mean sh*t, seeing as Batman put up a Billion twice by himself.

@Urban The fact that Batman is one of the most well known heroes of all time, it's not unusually to think a movie staring Batman could make big money. Iron Man was not a well known hero and until Marvel did their magic with his films. Most of my buddies didn't even know Iron Man when his first film came out.

@RextheKing: It's impressive, I just think the wrong Ironman movie achieved it. Ironman one deserves to be in this club, but Ironman 3 is in it because of pure escalation.

Look, I'm happy for Marvel. They can finance their passion projects like GOTG with this kind of money. But I'm still kind of disappointed in Iron Man 3. It felt like it was making fun of the comic book genre.

@Starkresilienr actually 97 m usd all other not even half of that, And 97 m usd is almost 1/6 of its total income coming from just 1 country u do Understand numbers and porcentages right? This movie made as much as Ironman 2 in North america that is what really matters.
kenjim152
kenjim152 - 5/17/2013, 10:12 AM
The movie made a billion because a great marketing campaign and excellent international movements, like openning before every where , but USA, besides having two versions one from China and one for the rest of the world, besides their joint venture with the chinese which was more than smart, people in Disney know what they are doing for sure, just sad that only like 25% of international box office goes directly to Disney, the movie should have done better in USA.

For the past decade, China's state-run film distributors have allowed in only 20 foreign films per year for national distribution. The foreign share of ticket sales is limited to a range of 13.5 to 17.5 percent.

Last month, the government announced it will allow in an additional 14 foreign films if they are made in 3-D or for the big-screen Imax format. It raised the foreign share of ticket sales to 25 percent. Complethttp://news.yahoo.com/disney-making-iron-man-3-chinese-partner-093645120.htmle article here:
