Based on Warren Ellis' Extremis storyline and following the box-office shattering events of Marvel's The Avengers, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has become the target of global terrorist The Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley) who has secretly been the mastermind behind most of the tragedies in Tony's life. Isolated from his fellow Avengers, Tony will have to devise his most advanced armor yet if he hopes to save the woman he loves, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Standing beside Tony as he takes on Mandarin's villainous allies and Ten Rings subordinates will be War Machine James Rhodey (Don Cheadle) who was conspicuously absent during the Chituari invasion in New York. Based on a screenplay by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Drew Pearce (Godzilla, Sherlock Holmes 3).

Nice!!! I was having some brainstorm now. Imagine if Iron Man 3 didn't have AIM or Extremis. But just Mandarin. Imagine some cool China trip. With fights in those big rooms ya know. Damn!

The same thing happened with Spiderman 3 where the fans wanted one thing and the studio wanted another but I think IM3 handled it a lot better.

Yeah sorry twist lovers. I would have much preferred to see this on the big screen. Y'know, instead of Trevor Slattery and Killian/Mallen/Mandarin/Fin Fang Foom.

These comics are just a reminder of IM3's failure and what a great villain could've been.

@LAXtremest I agree. I'm fully expecting Mandarin to change in the comics, as to "not confuse the casuals". I know Marvel likes to put characters from the movies in comics at the same time, but I hate when changes from the movies change the comics. That should not happen.

Of course, then there's Guardians of the Galaxy, where Abnett & Lanning's modern GoG comic was a fan favorite cult classic among cosmic Marvel fans. It gets cancelled because it never hit mainstream success and sales were somewhat low (while reviews were high). But somehow it gets to be a movie, but no it doesn't, we get Bendis's changed reboot comic, and it gets to be a movie before issue #1 is even out >_>

Would love to see the movie version of Mandarin in the comics. Goes to jail and picks up followers who still think he is the real deal. Taskmaster would go great with him!!
