I'm not a fan of JJ Abrams. I still say Duncan Jones would be the best choice. Moon was brilliant. He's already worked with Sam Rockwell who will probably be in Iron Man 3.

Nycguy84 - 12/26/2010, 7:44 AM
I'm going to break this down realistically.

1. JJ Abrams - Too busy with Star Trek and his TV duties.

2. Neill Blomkamp (District 9) - A distinct possibility but I still feel he doesn't have enough under his belt.

3. Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk) - It won't be any better than Iron Man 2 if they go with Leterrier.

4. Joss Whedon (Serenity) - I know it's part of the Avengers / Marvel universe but I think Whedon would rather direct The Avengers and a possible sequel and make this a bridge to better, more personal projects.

5. Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) - Nolan is done with superhero comics for the foreseeable future as a helmer at least.

6. Brad Bird (The Incredibles) - Intrigued by this pick I would have him Top 3. I think post MI4 he will give this franchise (Iron Man) into a different direction.

7. Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass) - With X-Men the First Class, The Kick Ass sequel not enough time.

8. Ben Affleck (The Town) - Has yet to direct a big film but could be interesting.

9. Zack Snyder (Watchmen) - Did these people forget he is re-launching Superman??

10. Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) - He is supposed to direct Ant-Man so I think they will let him stay in this spot.

I'd say Brad Bird or Affleck.

Neil Blomkamp? Seriously? Iron Man should be fun. District 9 was a good movie, but it wasn't the least bit fun.

CAUSE' IF YOU STATE THE STUFF, TAKE THAT, AND FIND THE DIECTOR THAT COULD GIVE US THAT, THATS THE GUY WHO SHOULD DO IRON MAN 3... AND NO FRIGGN "REBOOT" IRON MAN IS PERFECTLY AWSOME THE WAY IT IS..

I didn't know this was fantasy. I thought we were picking who REALISTICALLY could direct it.
So I went for Brad Bird 'cos by the time they would shoot he would've finished MI:4.

JJ is wayyyy to busy to even think about Iron Man.
Infact most of the people on the list are too busy.

@nycguy84: good break down. Agree that Bird and Affleck are top intriguing choices. I'd add Duncan Jones. He's only got 2 films under his belt, but he has superb story telling skills and a keen directorial eye. Whedon is a no, only because he's going to be in the middle of editing the Avengers when IM3 is supposed to be filmed.

The other thing is that Feige and co. are on the lookout for rising talent, that they can underpay. Affleck, Blomkamp, and Jones fit this bill. Bird, probably not after MI4. And that would rule out Abrams, even if he weren't already too busy.

Side note1: Why would this list include Nolan, Snyder, Wright, and Vaughn? Does anyone really think any of them are remotely in the running?

Side Note2: Del Toro is WAY overrated. Hellboy movies were mediocre at best. He should be taken off ALL comic book movie adaptation lists, especially Dr. Strange (only Cuaron/Depp should be considered.

I would like to see what Duncan Jones would do with Iron Man, considering his Moon had a specific enjoyable SF tone to it, so I suppose he would prefer to take Iron Man in that direction stylistically.

And at the same time, Robert Downey would be perhaps more free to take his character where he feels it should go, which I actually think can only be positive, considering he and Tony are more or less the same guy.

As for the mentioned SF tone, I would like to see technological aspect of IM go more space-oriented and a bit mystical in that sense, or should I say from being technological to being philosophical to being mystical, perhaps, which would introduce the established IM world to the Mandarin beautifully.

Plus, a Dr. Strange cameo :)

Why is it consistently the same commenter's on these articles that fail to realize the results are WHO THE CBM COMUNITY WOULD HAVE, IF WE HAD OUR CHOICE and not WHO WE, AS CBM FANS ARE HIRING BECAUSE WE MAKE THE DECISIONS FOR THE STUDIOS ?

Do you lack imagination or is it comprehension itself that eludes you ?

Great stuff HAWKS! There are a lot of great choices up there, but I always have a hard time picking directors for movies. For example, Duncan Jones would be my #1 pick but there's no way of knowing whether he'd be able to do something like Iron Man 3! Kind of like how I would have never suggested someone like the guy who directed Elf doing Iron Man...there's just no way of knowing who the best choice would be until they actually make the movies. By that point, we either end up with something more amazing than we expected, or 100x worse. There's only a few directors (Christopher Nolan for example) who you can pretty much guarantee will ALWAYS make amazing movies. J.J. Abrams is one of those though, so I like these results a lot. :)

This voting outcome is fine by me!

JJ has made other movies besides
the new STAR TREK. He is always
respectful to the source material
and he does action sequences immensely
well! He also has his experience to
contribute to the movie!

I can't understand why some are cutting
him down here! I love this voting outcome!
J.J. Abrams is great and would do justice
to Iron-Man III!

80sFace - 12/26/2010, 1:59 PM
@Hawks, fair enough, but who lacks imagination when Nolan is chosen to direct every CBM? Or they vote Del Toro for everything? Or they want Ackles to play Cap, Hawkeye, Namor, etc? People wanting to choose the same people over and over is silly. I think it's more fun to talk about who actually could direct or star in the films. But your point is well taken. This is your survey.

If Abrams had done AVENGERS we'd have Hank Pym
and Janet as Wasp in the first AVENGERS and have
them naming THE AVENGERS "THE AVENGERS" like
they should be!

Actually it was Jan who named them and everybody
second it! J.J. would have been respectful of the
source material unlike WHEDON who has seen fit to
exclude part of AVENGER'S history that is
extremely IMPORTANT and CRUCIAL!!!

To hell with Whedon, I wish J.J. was directing THE
AVENGERS!!!

I'm so sick of everyone tossing JJ Abrams' name out for every film under the sun. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of Abrams (hated the new Star Trek film, but enjoyed Alias).

But now that that poll mentions it, Shane Black wouldn't be too shabby of a choice. He's already worked with RDJ on Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (which was quite similar in tone to Iron Man).

I'd love to see him land the job (though I know he probably won't).

The rest of the directors either don't fit the subject matter (I mean, really? Ben Affleck?), or have already done or are currently working on a superhero film, or are otherwise too busy.

I mean, a little googling would've disqualified over half of the guys listed.

Duncan Jones? Not enough under his belt.

Blomkampft? The same(and I hated District 9, damn foreign Alien Nation rip-off).

Abrams, Whedon, Branagh, Nolan, Vaughn, Fincher? Not gonna happen, they're already busy.

Affleck? From what I've heard, he wants nothing to do with superhero stuff ever again after that trainwreck of a DD movie.

Letterrier? No, he lucked out with a decent adaption of the Hulk 'TV show' but I don't think he's got anymore tricks up his sleeve.

Proyas, Snyder, Berg, Verbinski, Edwards? You're joking, right? Yuck!

Black? Hmm, on the fence about him.

Bird? Not bad but I have no idea how he can handle live action.

Boyle & Del Toro? Not a good fit, IMO.

Bigelow? Interesting idea.

But I think Matt Reeves is who I'm leaning toward rooting for right now.
