What does Tom Cruise have against superhero movies anyway?

First his War of the Worlds remake bumps Fantastic Four from the coveted Fourth of July spot, then Tom Cruise says he's not doing Iron Man, despite years of talk that he would.

"It's not happening. Not with me," Cruise told reporters, according to Sci Fi Wire. "They ... came to me at a certain point, and you know, when I do something, I want to do it right. And, you know, if I commit to something, it has to be done in a way that I know it's going to be something special. And that ... as it was lining up, it just didn't feel to me like it was going to work."

What does Cruise's opinion say about the quality of the film? Time will tell. Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar are penning the script for director Nick Cassavetes. New Line plans a summer 2006 release.
