JUSTICE IS GRAY Edition Of ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE Will Include Additional Footage Of The Joker

The Joker's "We live in a society" line isn't in Zack Snyder's Justice League, but the filmmaker has now revealed that we'll see a little more of Jared Leto's Clown Prince of Crime in Justice is Gray...

Zack Snyder's Justice League brings Jared Leto's Joker back to the DC Universe for a confrontation with Ben Affleck's Batman. Of course, we caught our first glimpse of the Knightmare version of the villain when he reeled off that "We live in a society..." line in a trailer for the Snyder Cut of the movie.

That line isn't actually in the version streaming on HBO Max, and was actually improvised by Leto during shooting.

Talking to YouTuber Wonder Meg (via Screen Rant), Snyder confirmed that there is additional footage of The Joker, and it sounds like we'll see it in the "Justice Is Gray" edition of Justice League which is coming to the streaming service at a later date (it's basically a black and white cut).

"There was a version of that," Snyder said of the now infamous line. "What I was trying to do was...a second for the black-and-white version, for the charity version of the movie. I wanted to...there’s a second ending of the movie, of the Jared Leto scene, just slightly different. I included that line."

As for why it didn't make it into the version we're sure you're all watching today, it sounds like Snyder simply wanted to portray the Clown Prince of Crime in a different light and felt the line didn't work.

"I also did very much like the broken, the tricked, the vulnerable Joker that you see in the movie. And so it’s a trade-off of not getting the vulnerable Joker, you get the line and one other idea, which is cool, and I like it."

It's certainly interesting to wonder what these additional pieces of dialogue might be, but they probably won't be too significant (and are likely just a fun little extra for fans who watch "Justice Is Gray"). This confrontation between Batman and The Joker is definitely a highlight, though, so an extended version will be welcomed.
