As a big DC Comics fan, I'm very excited by the prospect of a Justice League movie hitting theaters in 2015. But at the same time, I'm a little worried. Last we heard, the script was still being tinkered with and as of right now, there's no cast or director attached. Although I must point out here that the Avengers began shooting in May 2011 and had a May 2012 release date so completing a Justice League film in roughly 3 years or so can be done. But Marvel essentially began working on that project in earnest back in 2007 during the Marvel Annual Braintrust Retreat not to mention the fact that The Avengers had a buildup across 5 solo-hero films. I suppose my primary concern is whether a Justice League film will reach the level of success it needs/deserves/requires in our post-Avengers movie world where a successful formula has already been presented to the general movie-going populace who will now have certain expectations. Nevertheless, I'm going to remain optimistic as we wait to see who Warner Bros. will place in the directing chair and who will make up the ensemble cast. It will be interesting to see whether WB goes for big-name actors or for lesser-known talent.

An obviously rushed attempt at trying to compete with THE AVENGERS to make comparable BO cash flow.

Just like how FOX is trying to make a shared universe with their Marvel properties just so that they can achieve AVENGERS-esque success.

Smh, FACEPALM, sad. Endo story.

I'm very happy that WB are moving forward with the JL movie. But at the same time, I'm very concern. Can WB do a good job with casting & hiring a director? Only time will tell. Again, I can't wait for the Jl in 2015!

Its good to see that they're taking a different approach to their shared universe. Now, all success is lying on Man of Steel.

Let's see: no setup for the heroes or villains, no one even in mind for casting, being incredibly rushed. It's just pure desperation by DC. They just don't want to be left in the dust by Marvel and frankly, they have no excuse for it. They could have EASILY done a Justice League movie a few years ago, but no. They cared about only Batman and Superman, half-assing everything else, like Green Lantern, or entirely ignoring them, like everyone else. They essentially had their thumbs up their asses this whole time, so now they just want to make a quick buck. I hope for the best, but I have a feeling that this will not be good.

Part of the excitement of The Avengers was the build up. You had Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk all in their own movies leading up to a highly anticipated ensemble. The audience grew to know these characters and many of them were the same actors from their stand alone movies (which is a huge bonus).

I can already see Man of Steel being a success and securing Henry Cavill, but would Christian Bale reprise his role as Batman? A replacement would feel strange to audiences. The Flash needs his own movie, as does Wonder Woman. An Aquaman movie would be nice but I understand it could be a tough sell for the studio so perhaps introducing him through the JL is a better approach. Give him some money shots to showcase his abilities and improve the public's opinion of him. The failure of Green Lantern doesn't help the cause much but at least I don't think any of us need to doubt Ryan Reynolds would come back as Hal.

I think DC needs to relax and take their time with this, it's not a race.. seeing a cash cow and running for it almost always ends in failure. If anything, the longer they wait and the more careful they are about their direction the more the audience will anticipate the release.

If they dont have cavill as supes then this is just a complete mess,DC have completely [frick]ed up with movies, you got the awful green lantern, and then you have nolans bale which is gone, then your gonna have man of steel next year which might not include cavil, they have to sort this out

@LEVITIKUZ It's not so much rushed as it is poorly planned. I mean really? Releasing it the same year, possibly the same summer as The Avengers, another movie with an epic superhero team? It reeks of desperation. Plus, how will they introduce each hero with their own story? Contrary to popular belief, not everyone knows everything about each Justice League member.

@DrHorrible brings up a good point. One great thing about the Avengers is that they didn't need to establish who the characters are because that has already been done for them. The only thing DC has going for them now is superman.
They can't use nolan's batman for obvious reasons, though people probably have a good idea of who he is already. Which is one other good thing, but without a reboot a lot of people are going to be confused thinking "didn't he die?"
Its a shame green lantern did so poorly cause thats another step backwards for this project.
I hope they figure something out cause its going to take a lot to make this work

WB/DC can only make good Superman and Batman films and even then they failed on some levels, they screw Green Lantern over, and we should believe that they could make a JUSTICE LEAGUE work? HA
UltimaRex
UltimaRex - 10/19/2012, 9:07 AM
It's 2012.

JL comes out in 2015.

Who on Earth really thinks this is "rushed"?

Did The Magnificent Seven need set-up movies?

Did Ocean's Eleven need set-up movies?

Did The Dirty Dozen need set-up movies?

No, they didn't.

The only reason Avengers had (not "needed", "had") set-up movies is because Marvel wanted to be sure the audience knew the characters and the world going into the movie. A good idea but ultimately useless as half of the people who saw Avengers didn't even see the set-up movies.

Everyone knows most of the Justice League. Thus it makes more sense to have spin-off movies than set-up movies.

The way I see it is if they have just one dc cinematic universe and they use all the same actors for all their movies the chance of this working go up about 70% higher than if they have multiple universes and more than one Superman, Batman , WW , GL ect .

Justice League movie should be released around 2017 and not 2015. DC should release movies of their characters first such as Wonder woman, Flash, or Hawk Man before Justice League.

@LEVITIKUZ You can't exactly get attached to a character you don't really know anything about. I myself am not a huge fan of the Justice League, mainly just Batman and Superman, mostly because they are so popular, so I don't really know the backstories and origins of characters, such as Martian Manhunter, Flash, etc. It would be nice to have some exposition in this kind of film so that you feel like you know them and actually care about what happens to them. That's my view on it anyway.

i say it will all fail unless they have cavill as superman for this .

AgentZero

The General Public doesn't care. It's a superhero team-up with Batman and Superman in it. So both movies are gonna make big money.
ravennpilot
ravennpilot - 10/19/2012, 9:23 AM
I dont see the need for this movie. This wont raise any interesting ideas like a solo movie would. The Marvels A-team movie was fun but past watching the explosions what was there. The solo movies are where its at.

When every character requires to have an equal amount of screen time something has to be cut out. like Captain Americans story in the Avengers.

Im picturing a WW set up like Gladiator. Can you image a Wonder Woman with everything taken away and her smashing fools.

Instead we will get a mash of super heroes exploding buildings for an hour and half then rushed intros and plot set up.

By the way if Batman is ever on the battlefield along side superman and WW I will crap my pants. I love Batman too.

People saying this won't work definitely are being incredibly ignorant.

There is no doubt this is being rushed, and no doubt it will be INCREDIBLY difficult to make good.

BUT that does not make it impossible.

Honestly, I'm sure not many expected a film like Avengers to work, even with build up movies. At least initially

So I'm giving WB the benefit of the doubt, HIRE TALENT HIRE TALENT HIRE TALENT. If theres talent here, theres a chance.

BRAD BIRD FOR DIRECTOR

JULEZ13
JULEZ13 - 10/19/2012, 9:31 AM
WB does NOT have to have solo movies first. By NOT doing that viewers will get a sense of who the characters are and what they can do, making them choose favorites and want to see more of them. This will give the solo prequels more attention and more people will want to see this.

How many people right now will want to go and see a WW movie, or an Aquaman movie? These characters aren't even on WB's radar to make solo films because they believe people wouldn't care to see them for various reasons.

WB is going about this the right way. But I do see this film being pushed back to a 2016 release if they don't find a director by early next year and start shooting in the summer. I could just imagine how long editing will take!

Now that I think of it, a 2015 release is very doable.

The timeline could go as:

Director chosen: Jan. or Feb. 2013.
Casting Finished: June 2013.
Cast work out time: 3 months - finish Sept. 2013
Filming starts: Sept. 2013 or a little later
Filming Ends: Spring or Summer 2014.
Editing: Summer 2014 - about 2 months before the release date.

If they are going about it like this it will give them enough time to do re-shoots if need be like they did with MOS.

Then in 2015 advertising will be all over.

This will be very doable. They just need to hurry up and get the ball rolling.

ZACK SNYDER FOR DIRECTOR!!!

KEEP HAL JORDAN! REPLACE REYNOLDS!

ravennpilot - 10/19/2012, 9:40 AM
Im one of the few that doesnt really feel the need for a full team up movie.

I enjoy these super heroes in their own worlds. There are so many stories to tell on each characters own. Heck we have like 8 batman films 5 superman films. I would just like to see some major investment in individual characters.
Green Lantern got boned but there are now 5 human green lanterns.

I dont think a JLA movie is a bad idea, just a unnecessary one.

i would love to see it but..hal HAS to be GL....i grew up knowing hal as GL and i could never see another person in that roll....batman will have to be completly reimagined and i guess the jury is still out on superman until the movie comes out.

the problem will be trying to pack so many people into one movie without any kind of setup...but i'll go see it so dont get me wrong
