WB Was Reportedly Planning To Recast Iris West For FLASHPOINT Before Kiersey Clemons' Scene Leaked
Kiersey Clemons was recruited to play Iris West by Dope director Rick Famuyiwa when he was still on board the solo Flash move, but it sounds like the studio was initially planning to recast the role...
One of several scenes that ended up being cut from the theatrical release of Justice League featured Dope actress Kiersey Clemons as Iris West being saved from a crash by Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), and it turns out this sequence being leaked could well have saved Clemons' job.
According to the VFX artist that worked on the film and has been dropping bits of info. on Reddit, Warner Bros. was planning to recast Clemons - who was brought on as the character back when Rick Famuyiwa was still at the helm of Flashpoint - and digitally replace her in this scene before it wound up being cut. However, that all changed when the footage leaked online.
"I’ve said before, we were replacing Clemons with a digital woman in the shot – Clemons was brought on because of Famuyiwa, when he bailed, it meant WB could recast her. That’s around the time the shot was cut. Now it’s been leaked online with her in it, they’ll probably stop all the work being done on it to replace her to stop fan backlash."
Of course, the studio could still say screw it and recast Iris West for Flashpoint, but if they have any sense they'll save themselves a lot of backlash and keep Clemons in the role.
