Ciarán Hinds, best known for Munich, Road to Perdition and more recently, Game of Thrones, spoke to The Independent and confirmed his casting as Steppenwolf in Zack Snyder's Justice League. It seems this version of Darkseid's uncle and military general will be completely CGI. "Basically they’re going to construct something, digitally, and then they will use my eyes and mouth,"said Hinds on his role as the film's primary antagonist. He added, "He’s old, tired, still trying to get out of his own enslavement to Darkseid, [but] he has to keep on this line to try and take over worlds."

Previous rumors state that Steppenwolf invades Earth to retrieve three Motherboxes left on the planet after a battle with the Amazons, Atlanteans and mankind that occurred 30,000 years ago.

The use of a motion-captured, fully-CG villain continues a trend that began with Batman v Superman's Doomsday and will continue with Wonder Woman's Ares.

ABOUT JUSTICE LEAGUE:

Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes -- Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash -- it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

@BlackStar25 - as long as steppenwolf and ares dont look like doomsday (an orc/troll/man-bear-pig) i'm fine with it all being cgi
