SPOILERS: JUSTICE LEAGUE - 15 WTF Questions We Have After Watching The Movie
Justice League is a good movie but it left us with a lot of unanswered questions and some which can only be placed in the "WTF?" category! Here, we take a look at those and attempt to find some answers.
I really enjoyed Justice League but there's no denying that the movie is something of a mess. The story is straightforward but still somehow all over the place and with Joss Whedon's reshoots clearly changing the story in a major way, there are a lot of plot holes and strange decisions on display here.
As a result, we've been left with a lot of unanswered and "WTF?" questions which have us scratching our heads. From moments which didn't make much sense to big reveals and twists which failed to stick the landing, we explore all those here along with how they tie to past and future DC Comics movies.
We also attempt to try and come up with some answers for what the hell was going on with some of these and would love to hear your thoughts and theories on them in the comments section below.

How Did Superman Become Clark Kent Again?
At the end of Justice League, Lois Lane has returned to The Daily Planet as a proper journalist and Superman...well, he's somehow regained his Clark Kent persona despite the fact he was said to have died during the battle between The Trinity and Doomsday. We never learn how he explained his return but surely it coming alongside the return of Superman set off a lot of alarm bells with people?
Did Lex Luthor Design Cyborg's New Look Before He Did?
Right at the end of Justice League, we see Cyborg get a new look when he reforms his armour into something far closer to the look rocked by his comic book counterpart. It's a cool moment but what's weird is that the logo which ends up on his chest is the same one that Lex Luthor had in his files! Did Victor Stone just copy that or did Lex somehow know what he'd end up with? Either way, it's silly!
What Would Steppenwolf Have Gained From Transforming Earth?
Steppenwolf wants to use the three Mother Boxes to transform Earth and gain a place among the New Gods but what would changing Earth really do to help achieve that? Apokolips is never mentioned and neither is the importance of our planet, so we never learn what exactly making Earth a wasteland infested by Parademons would achieve beyond it being a generic bad guy plan.
Will No One Realise The Justice League Is Based In Wayne Manor?
The fact that the Batcave is beneath Wayne Manor already takes a certain suspension of disbelief but sure someone will notice that the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash all meet there? Sure, it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere but it's hard to escape the feeling that the League wouldn't have been better off with an outer space Watchtower rather than Bruce Wayne's mansion.
Who Broke Lex Luthor Out Of Arkham Asylum?
In Justice League's after-credits scene, we learn that Lex Luthor has broken out of Arkham Asylum and is chilling out on a yacht. When Deathstroke pays a visit, he talks about them forming a League of their own but is Slade Wilson the one who helped get him out of Arkham? We're left to assume that's the case but it's never confirmed, quite possibly because those scenes were ultimately cut.
Why Did Aquaman And Mera Talk In An Air Bubble?
Atlanteans are supposed to be able to talk underwater but Justice League features Arthur Curry and Mera chatting away in an air bubble of sorts which she creates. Does that mean everyone who lives in Atlantis handles a conversation this way or so they all live in Gungan style houses which are somehow protected from the sea? Thankfully, James Wan has confirmed this was a one-off and it could have happened as a result of this scene being the product of last-minute Joss Whedon reshoots.
Why Can't Wonder Woman Go Back To Themyscira?
If Steppenwolf can find Themyscira via Boom Tube and Hippolyta is able to fire an arrow all the way from there to man's world, why can't Diana Prince return home? Who knows but Justice League makes it clear that she's still in exile and that really doesn't make a lot of sense. Sure, Themyscira is hidden but there must be a way for her to get home. My guess is that Wonder Woman 2 will deal with this.
Where Has Steppenwolf Spent The Past Few Thousand Years?
Steppenwolf talks about having spent the past few thousand years in exile but it's never made clear where that was. Has he just been wandering the cosmos waiting for his chance to return to Earth or stuck on Apokolips with Darkseid punishing him for his failure? We don't know and it's hard to say why he wouldn't have returned to Earth long before Superman arrived from Krypton!
How Did Superman Remember Batman But Not His Own Name?
When Superman is resurrected, he has no memory of who he is until seeing Lois Lane appears to clear things up for the Man of Steel and he flies back to Ken Farm with her. Before that, though, the hero seems to recognise Batman, realises he once wanted him dead, and even quotes "Tell me, do you bleed?" back to him! That's a pretty good memory for someone who's supposed to be an amnesiac!
Who Teleported Steppenwolf Away?
Steppenwolf travels via Boom Tube in Justice League but when his fear gets the best of him and his Parademons start turning on the villain, a Boom Tube takes him (and conveniently all of them away). The question is, did he choose to escape and if not, was someone else responsible? Did he return to Apokolips or was Darkseid watching on and decided that enough was enough? Who knows!
How Did That Arrow Fly All The Way Across An Ocean?
In one of Justice League's biggest WTF moments, Diana Prince's mother Hippolyta fires an arrow all the way from Themyscira across an entire ocean. It then manages to set a stone monument on fire as a warning to Wonder Woman and while magic is no doubt involved somewhere, how it could travel that far and land so perfectly is downright ridiculous and doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Has Aquaman Really Never Been To Atlantis?
Apparently not! In an earlier cut of Justice League, we would have seen Arthur Curry return home only to be rejected but that was scrapped and is something clearly being saved for Aquaman next year. That's fair enough but it makes his visit a little hard to fathom. How would he know where the Mother Box was kept and how did Mera recognise him so quickly? I guess we'll find out next December!
Where Is Earth's Green Lantern?
The flashback to Steppenwolf's initial attack on Earth proves that the planet was once under the protection of the Green Lantern Corps but who is looking after Sector 2814 when the events of Justice League takes place and why aren't they involved in this battle? We can only assume it's because something must be going on elsewhere in the universe which has drawn away their attention!
Did Steppenwolf Track Down Lex Luthor?
In the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we learned that it was Lex Luthor who brought Steppenwolf to Earth as the two can be seen in communion with outlines of the Mother Boxes floating above them. Justice League says that it's Superman's death which brought Steppenwolf out of hiding as it woke those up but wasn't it actually Lex who was responsible for that? Well, this movie doesn't give him any credit and he and Lex never appear to actually cross paths.
Why Didn't The Rest Of The League Notice Superman's Weird Face?
For most of Justice League, Superman's face looks seriously messed up. That's obviously because Joss Whedon reshot most of Henry Cavill's scenes and had to use CGI to cover up his Mission: Impossible 6 moustache but how did the team not realise that there was something seriously f***ed up about the Man of Steel's jaw? Maybe it's just a weird side effect of coming back from the dead, eh?
