Warner Bros. Insiders Reportedly Believe ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE "Never Should've Happened"

Warner Bros. clearly believed that Zack Snyder's Justice League would placate the director's loyal fanbase, but after it seemingly had the opposite effect, the studio reportedly regrets releasing the film.

After years of campaigning, the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement finally paid off when Warner Bros. debuted a 4-hour director's cut of Justice League on HBO Max last year, but the move didn't exactly have the desired effect.

Although the filmmaker's dedicated fanbase were delighted to see the "Snyder Cut," its release did little to placate his followers. In fact, if anything, it only made them even more adamant that the "SnyderVerse" should be fully restored.

Now, it's come to light that the decision to release the restored version of Justice League has come to be viewed as a mistake by studio higher-ups.

In Variety's piece on Warner Bros. Discover CEO David Zaslav's search for a "Kevin Feige-type" to run the DC Film and TV divisions, it's mentioned that insiders "have lamented that “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” never should’ve happened. Rather than quiet the unceasing online campaigning to #ReleasetheSnyderCut, the four-hour HBO Max feature only further entrenched the vocal and extremely online “Snyderverse” fanbase in opposition to the leadership at the studio in general and at DC in particular."

While there is undoubtedly some truth to this, WBD hasn't exactly done itself any favors with its more recent actions! Cancelling Batgirl may have saved the studio a few dollars, but it cost them a lot of good will and potentially severed relationships with talent. Possibly even more detrimental was the handling of the Ezra Miller situation.

With any luck, the recent hiring of Dan Lin as new DC chief will go some way towards turning things around and giving the DCEU (or whatever it winds up being referred to) some much-needed structure while also doing what he can to shine a more positive light on the studio.

I campaigned hard for the Snydercut. I got it and freakin loved it. But it's definitely time to move on. WB just needs to stop for a few years and figure out what the hell they are doing.

It's better than the whedon cut in Some aspects but thats not saying much, snyder had the benefit of hindsight and a 4 hour runtine,

@Dannywest - regardless, it’s still the better film with a better story that was already baked in (such as Cyborg’s arc) long before that hack Whedon came on.

@TheLobster - @TheLobster - But in hindsight both films still told the same story. All Whedon did was trim all the fat and make it more stupid fun like the worst MCU movies. We didn't need that extra 2 hrs of set up, extended scenes, knightmare sequences, or origin for any of the JL members becuz WB was going to give them all solo films anyway which would have retold it anyway. Despite ZSJL's 4hr runtime it was still incomplete because Snyder still had to use chapter inserts to make up for the fact he never shot any transition scenes of how the JL members traveled onto different sets.

Not saying Whedon's cut is better because it is worst but to me Whedon's cut just flowed better because it was edited more tightly to follow JL's simple plot.

@Dannywest - let's face it though a Whedon cut or a Snyder cut was bound to be better than the mixed up mess of having two directors with two different visions being mashed together.

@mastakilla39 - Whedon actually improved Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Batman as characters and actually made their motivations logical. The only thing Snyder did better was Cyborg. Whedon's film had an overall theme to it as well. His framing of everything under fear helped explain why they needed Superman back, how Batman and Wonder Woman was acting and so on. It thematically made more sense.

This video is long, but once you start it you'll get sucked in for a while.

@TheJackAss - its obvious you didnt hear the actual interview/podcast, it was more funny sarcasm between the two, Lin was one the original producers that got Ayer's Suicide Squad up and running, so im sure he has a good relationship with the original dceu creators.

@TheJackAss - Jim Lee? lol he had no say in the film division whatsoever but his days are numbered in the comics area as DC's sales have tanked hard sine Dark Metal...the only comics that sell are anything Batman related, which is a shame cause the Superman WarWorld storyline is GREAT

@newmutantsRETURNS - No no at the beginning of the year a CEO or whatever that was high up left named Daniel Cherry III. He shows up about two years ago & we got what we ended up getting. But leaves suddenly before the Discovery deal was finalized

@newmutantsRETURNS - & I gave up on main stream comics. A lot of my habits changed since the first time main stream went woke. Every once in a while we get something like Shattered Grid. But mainly my main stream days are done now. Especially with the big two
