Champions Or New Mutants? Mystery Surrounding Upcoming MCU TV Series Deepens After Latest Update

Marvel Studios is seemingly moving forward with another streaming series, and speculation points to it being anything from Champions to Strange Academy, and even X-Men spin-off, New Mutants.

Marvel Studios' post-Avengers: Secret Wars slate is taking shape, with X-Men, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther 3 all scheduled for 2028. On the streaming side, we're expecting a reduced output, as nothing has been announced beyond VisionQuest and Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.

We know something is on the way, though, as Murphy's Multiverse has previously shared intel on a mysterious Disney+ project being developed under a production company codenamed "Veil Productions."

The site has now learned that Veil Productions "has been approved to begin production under the working title of 'Slumber Party.' Additional evidence suggests that the studio is keeping its options open to develop future seasons of the series."

Later, the report suggests this could hint at a "youth-focused series," which lends weight to rumours that the MCU's Young Avengers will assemble as the Champions after first teaming up in the next Avengers movies.

Of course, with mutants set to take centre stage in the next Saga, this could also connect to the X-Men franchise. New Mutants #21, released in 1984, featured a story titled "Slumber Party," so Marvel Studios may have plans for a new take on that team. Strange Academy is another possibility.

We last saw the New Mutants on screen in 2020 when 20th Century Fox released the team's ill-fated movie during the pandemic. There have been rumblings about Anya Taylor-Joy returning as Magik, and this would be the place to make it happen.

In terms of who could assemble as the MCU's Champions, Wiccan (Joe Locke), Speed (Ruaridh Mollica), Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Hawkeye (Hailee Steinfeld), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), and Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) are all likely contenders.

"People really love these Young Avengers, but I don’t even know if they actually read those comics—not that they’re bad," Vellani previously said, saying she'd rather assemble the Champions. "The chemistry between Kamala, Miles [Morales], and Sam [Alexander], it’s too good. I would love to see that trio in the MCU. Neither of those characters exist yet in live action, but I’m praying for it."

"Yeah. I love Sam Alexander. One of the first interactions that they had," the Ms. Marvel star continued. "Also, when Sam tried to reveal his identity, and Kamala was like, 'Get away from me.' I love it."

What do you think this mystery MCU project could be for Disney+? As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

I love the New Mutants. It's my favorite comics series of all time. But its too early for them to be featured. The X-Men haven't even been established yet.

Interesting , I could see it being Champions or Strange Academy tbh since it would be odd to do New Mutants already when the cast we have for our main X-Men is already new & young so would be redundant imo.

Anyway , #BringBackWonderMan!!.

Too early for New Mutants. We haven't seen first X-Men movie yet.
If Cyclops, Jean, Storm are 20 years old. Then Cannonball, Sunspot, Magik, Boom Boom shouldn't be older than 15.

I wouldn't mind if Wolverine was an on again off again character..not a cameo, but came in to help or whatever. But only if it benefited the story
