NOVA Rumored To Be One Of The Roles Ryan Gosling Has Spoken To Marvel Studios About

A recent rumor claimed that Barbie star Ryan Gosling had met with Marvel Studios about a number of potential roles, and we're now hearing that one of them may have been Nova...

Barbie star Ryan Gosling was one of the many names said to be in line to play Doctor Doom in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and while he is no longer expected to be in contention for that particular role (if he ever was), a recent rumor claimed that he might just be in talks to play a different character.

Gosling reportedly met with Kevin Feige about potentially coming aboard the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether the actor is officially in talks remains to be seen, but more than one character is believed to have been discussed.

Now, Daniel Richtman is reporting that one of the roles Gosling has spoken to Feige about is Nova.

This is obviously just a rumor for now, but Gosling did recently part ways with Universal and Blumhouse's Wolf Man, which he's been attached to for over three years. This could be a complete coincidence, or course, but is there a chance Gosling stepped away from the project because Marvel came calling?

Gosling hasn't really seemed too excited about the prospect of playing a superhero or joining the MCU in previous interviews, although he did mention Ghost Rider as one character he might be interested in taking a crack at (could the Spirit of Vengeance be another possibility?) on a couple of occasions. He also appeared to be a little more open to the idea while doing press for The Russo Bros.' The Gray Man last year.

“I think they felt my Kenergy," he said about the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directors. "They must have felt it before I did. I hope they can manifest this MCU thing. I think that would be cool.”

Nova was originally being developed as a Disney+ series, but last we heard, plans had shifted and Richard Rider (unless they decide to go with Sam Alexander) looks set to make his MCU debut on the big screen.

Here's what Feige had to say about Nova's potential introduction back in 2021.

"Timing is relative, right?" said the Marvel Studios boss. "I think I'd been talking about Doctor Strange eight years before that movie came out. So, 'immediate potential' is relative. But clearly, we are not shying away from the cosmic end of storytelling right in the sweet spot of the Nova Corps and Nova himself."

Would you like to see Ryan Gosling step into the role of Nova in the MCU, or do you think he'd be better suited for a different character? Drop us a comment down below.

This make the most sense IMO. The casting call for Sentry is open to any ethnicity and would just be a supporting character while Ghost rider would be a streaming effort which he's too big for. There have also been rumors that Nova has been changed to a feature film after the D+ output has been reevaluated. He's also old enough to mentor Sam Alexander.

Otherwise Marvel is below him.

@thewanderer - he might be too old since he’s in his early 40’s but he would have been good when he was younger.

Nova deserves a movie. A big space opera.

@Order66 - It’s so simple. Start it with a cold open of Thanos destroying Xandar. Rider is off planet and the only known Nova to survive. As the planet is destroyed, the entirety of the Nova force transfers to his helmet. This gives him immense power that the MCU Novas had never seen before. He then travels the universe trying to rebuild the Nova Core.

He'd be a very good Silver Surfer.

YAWN.... 😑 This is what Ryan had to say about the MCU/NOVA rumors back in 2022:

"Ryan Gosling has debunked the rumors that he'll be playing Nova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While a Nova project is in the works, no casting information has been announced, and at the moment it's even unclear if it'll end up on Disney Plus or be a theatrical release. But, while Gosling has denied being Nova, he has revealed the surprising MCU character that he'd like to bring to life.

"Ryan and I chatted about the Nova rumors yesterday which he said aren't true," MTV's Josh Horowitz revealed on Twitter. "BUT this morning Ryan reached out to me to say there is one superhero he wants to play...GHOST RIDER"

They're trolling us, right? same with Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards

@fartjokesking - If the idle internet chatter has any shreds of truth to it; Pascal may have been the ONLY actor willing to take the role and be subservient to Sue's new "Girl-Boss" role for the MCU's version of the FF. 🫤

He'd be spectacular...as more mature Rich Rider. But he's about 10 years too late for the role unfortunately.
