AMBULANCE Director Michael Bay Explains Why He's In No Rush To Direct A Marvel, DC Or STAR WARS Movie

After helming four Transformers movies, it's fair to say Michael Bay knows his way around a massive franchise (even if many fans of the Autobots and Decepticons didn't appreciate his take). Of course, he's directed his fair share of original stories as well, including Bad Boys, Armageddon, and Ambulance, with the latter now playing in theaters across the globe.

When ComicBook.com spoke to the filmmaker, they wondered if his next project could be a superhero movie, but there's a specific reason why Bay wouldn't want to join the Marvel or DC Universes. Even a certain Galaxy Far, Far Away isn't a huge draw to the director!

"It's not that I'm not interested in Marvel," he started. "As Ridley Scott says, the most complicated thing for a director and the most fun thing for a director is to build the world. I'm not the guy to go into Lucas' Star Wars and do Star Wars Five. That's not me. I'm not the one to come into Iron Man Seven. I'm not the one to do Batman 10. I want to do my own thing."

"I would love to do a superhero thing," he concluded, "but I want to do it on my own terms and create my own world."

Many of you reading this will probably be relieved to hear that Bay has no plans to pitch Kevin Feige his take on the next Captain America movie or to steal The Batman franchise from Matt Reeves, but we can't help but be intrigued by what his take on a superhero would look like. If the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies he produced are any indication, though, we might be best off not finding out!

There's no word on what Bay's next project will be following Ambulance, but with that movie likely to underwhelm at the box office this weekend, he might want to consider another big franchise.

Would you like to see Bay take his directing talents to a Galaxy Far, Far Away?
