Has KILL LIST And HIGH-RISE Director Ben Wheatley Signed On To Helm A Marvel Studios Project?

Could we actually see the director of Kill List helm a Marvel Studios film? Nothing has been confirmed, but an actor who's working on a different project with Ben Wheatley seems to have let something slip.

Marvel Studios has definitely begun to think outside the box when it comes to directors, but it's safe to say nobody ever thought they'd see Ben Wheatley put his stamp on the MCU.

The British filmmaker is known for his blackly funny but disturbing and ultra-violent work on the likes of Kill List, A Field in England and Free Fire, but it sounds like he may be about to join the far more family-friendly Marvel franchise.

While appearing as a guest on Adam Buxton's podcast, actor/comedian Bob Mortimer seemingly confirmed that Wheately had signed on to helm a Marvel Studios flick while discussing an upcoming project of theirs which had to be put on the back-burner. "We were about to start that but then Ben got offered one of the big Marvel films, so it weren't for us to say 'you ain't doing that Ben'," he revealed.

It's possible that Mortimer is mistaken, but if not, which movie could this be? Wheately has previously expressed interest in directing a Marvel Zombies film, and while that's probably a long-shot, there's always a chance word reached the studio and they met about something else that piqued his interest.

Have a listen to the podcast for yourselves HERE and see what you think.

Really don’t see Ben Wheatley making a superhero movie. Don’t think this is legit.

@regularmovieguy - I would've said the same about Takia Waititi, Kenneth Branagh, and The Russo Bros (pre-Civil War).

@SmellofDuty - I think all of those directors make sense to have directed superhero movies lol. Ben Wheatley not so much.

@LordDaredevil - after having seen their MCU films, yes. Beforehand... I would have never named them to do one.

This should be interesting. With Ragnarok's success by going outside of their norm, as well as Ryan Coogler for BP, they are taking risks and I like it.

I love Zombies and I love heros. If it's Marvel, Count me in!

Ben Wheatley is by far the most unique and exciting voice to come out of British cinema in quite some time, and I'm continually excited for what he's doing next but I'll be honest he's one of those directors I don't necessarily want or need doing a superhero film.

Also turns out one of my good friends is his cousin and they only felt it prudent to tell me like a couple of months ago. Crazy how small the world is.

Marvel's dark universe... here we come

Now that Strange disappeared from Earth, Wong can't protect Earth from all the things that go bump in the night without him. This is the perfect opportunity for d'evils such as vampires (ahem, Blade), Nightmare, Ghost Rider, etc to sneak in

I still haven't seen any of his movies. He's got another one coming out called Colin You Anus *snicker* that I might watch, and I really wanna get around to seeing High-Rise and Free Fire.

Think the chances of him doing a Marvel movie are very unlikely, maybe a comic book movie one day but the tone of the MCU is nothing like a movie I can ever see Wheatley doing. Would be another Taika Waititi moment if they got him though, one of the best minds in cinema today. Moon Knight would be perfect

Calling it now, Midnight Sons. Options to include Blade, Ghost Rider (probably Ketch), Morbius, Dr Strange (he'll be back next year anyway), Scarlet Witch (instead of Jennifer Kale) and Werewolf by Night.

Haven't seen much from the guy, but Kill List is pretty damn good.

I'm hoping he nabs one of these supposed "Midnight Sons" characters that everyone has been clamoring for the past few months.

Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Morbius, etc...

There has been talk for awhile now about Sony possibly doing a Morbius film... So I'm gonna guess it's that (if anything).

I don't really think any of the last movies fit being outside the norm. You can have a good idea of how to predict they were going to be, they just had different tones but this would be really a real "out of the norm" movie if he is going to direct something.
