Tickets for Lee Cronin's The Mummy are now on sale, and Universal/Blumhouse have released a chilling final trailer along with a series of new posters.

This looks to be a decidedly darker and more horror-focused take on the classic movie monster than the 2017 Tom Cruise flop and the Indiana Jones-inspired franchise starring Brendan Fraser.

The story focuses on a child named Katie who reappears after vanishing in the desert eight years prior, only to begin manifesting some terrifying new character traits.

The trailers suggest that Cronin has taken a more demonic possession approach than most previous adaptations of the original story, which typically feature an ancient Egyptian ruler being resurrected to seek vengeance when their tomb is disturbed.

Cronin admitted that his film isn't really a "Mummy movie" at all during a recent interview.

"[It's] coming from a very different place, and it's not even a reinvention of mummy lore; it's looking into darker places and doing something different with what we think we might already know. It's an insane mashup to suggest, but [this film is] almost one part Poltergeist and one part Seven, but put through my lens and the way that I like to entertain people."

"This movie is a different type of fairground attraction," the filmmaker said in a separate interview with SFX. "It's more of a maze, and you don't know whether you're going to go left or right next, but you're not in control. Ideally, if I'm doing a good job, I've got my hand on your back, and I'm telling you which way to go."

"There's some tough, dark material in it, and there's a hard-boiled detective streak. But then there's also a huge domestic, supernatural swirl that's going on."

Have a look at the new trailer and posters below and let us know what you think.

"Hot off the record-setting resurrection of EVIL DEAD RISE, writer/director Lee Cronin turns to one of the most iconic horror stories of all time with an audacious and twisted retelling: LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY. The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare."

Lee Cronin's The Mummy stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, with Veronica Falcón. The film was written and directed by Cronin, and produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville. The executive producers are Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher and Lee Cronin.

The movie is set for a theatrical release on April 17.

I still dont think they should have called it "The Mummy". Feels like it was only to get it more attention, so it feels like a cheap trick. The movie does look very creepy though, so I will probably watch it.

I`ll have to wear a diaper for this. I'm playing Resident Evil right now and it has to be played only during the day, with the curtains wide open and a priest is there with holy water.

@WEAPONXOXOXO - Is it because of THE GIRL!?!? LOL

Love the RE games and I agree, they really did a great job with Grace's chapters. Truly scary shit lol.

@WEAPONXOXOXO - Agree, and with Leon they straight up COOKED with his gameplay! I do miss the tight turns you can make like in RE2 but it's still incredibly fun to blast up zombies though in the game. Not so much as Grace since her character is more designed to ya know...run for your life!

@Irregular - oh yes they`ve come a long way since RE2. But back then that game too made me jump. when the dogs went through the glass in the police station. I`m enjoying it. I`ll definently play it through one more time after a finished it the first time.

@WEAPONXOXOXO - Lol I mean RE2R my bad.

But RE2 was my very first RE game and I was like six, but man oh man that game blew my mind! Mainly because at the time I don't remember any game being as cinematic and as engaging as RE2. Compared to the other games I was playing, it was like a hell of a shellshock for me but man oh man, I loved it! Took a month to beat but I did it...in DANGER...with a PISTOL!! lol

1. This is NOT The Mummy
2. The Brendan Fraser sequel is a welcome bit of nostalgia.
3. The Tom Cruise Mummy was NOT THAT BAD and I loved Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll

Tom Cruise Mummy was horrible. TDK Batman would punch you in the ovaries for saying things like that.

@Batmangina - ikr? The Tom Cruise one was actually really good and they could have gone somewhere with that. I love it and get sad when I think about the Universal Dark Universe we could have had with that pic of everyone together :/

I would rather see the next one with Brendan Fraser. This sounds like any ol' horror flick. They coulda called it anything.

Honestly , horror is usually not my thing but this seems like an interesting & potentially decent reimagining of the Mummy so might check it out tbh (though likely not in theatres)…

Atleast it looks better then the dud that was the last take on this property imo!!.

This looks fantastic!

I already bet this is going to be what the new Exorcist should have been, but won’t be.

But hope I’m wrong because I’d like both to be scary as sh*t.

Possession movie slapped with Mummy branding, like how the Netflix Resident Evil series was a biological weapons movie slapped with RE brand
