Well, ladies and gentlemen, the time has come. 2010 has come and gone, and now 2011 is upon us.
And boy, has it set up to be a hell of a ride.
To kick off the year, we have the much-delayed
Green Hornet, which would normally have already been on DVD by now if they hadn't postponed for conversion to IMAX, 3D, and IMAX 3D. Buzz initally pointed towards it failing, but recent early reviews seem to indicate otherwise. Will it pull it off? Will Seth Rogen actually manage to handle a more serious film?
Next up, we have
Thor, and boy has it started out strong. Newcomer Chris Hemsworth stands among a damn great supporting cast, including also-newcomer Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Thor's first trailer brought a very strong reaction on sites all around, including praise by people who hadn't even heard of him before. Will Thor live up to it's hype and expectations? Could this be Hemsworth's key to Hollywood fame?
Then, after that, we have
Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides. Can the franchise save itself after it's last dismal installment? Or will it simply be another bad sequel to a great film series?
Then, we have
X-Men: First Class! Will it fail horribly? Or could it be an underdog, and perhaps even
save the franchise?
Afterwards, we have the
Green Lantern! Will Reynolds pull of Jordan, or will he just be Reynolds? Will the movie be mostly serious, or mostly joking? Will this movie finally help get a Justice League film off the ground, or will it crash and burn, like other adaptations that came before it?
Then, we have
Rise of the Apes!
....
Yeah, we can't tell anything about it from the little info we have so far.
Soon after, we have
Transformers: Dark of the Moon! With Bay and Labeouf having admitted that the previous installment turned out poorly due to the Writer's Strike demanding a script written speedily, have they learned from their mistakes? The recent trailer recieved positive response, especially for it's dark undertone and managing to have absolutely no explosions in it and not instantly giving away what movie it is until the end. Will this finale crash and burn like it's last installment, or could Bay have one trick up his sleeve that could redeem him?
Then we have
Captain America: The First Avenger! Can Chris Evans hold up to the pressure of the fans and general public as one of the most symbolic comic book characters of all time? Could it be the epic, invigorating, and inspiring war movie that it should? Or could it possibly fail, even be worse than the previous 1990's adaptation?
Then, we soon have
Cowboys and Aliens! Could it's cheesy-sounding title turn people off from the film? Could it be a surprise success, even the sleeper hit of the year?
And then, we have
Conan!
....
Yeah.
So, all that said: Let the battle
BEGIN!
