After his controversial exit from Marvel's upcoming
Ant-Man, Edgar Wright still has a chance to show us his take on an insect movie. Sony has tapped Edgar Wright (
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) to direct the adaptation of the young adult novel
Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith. The script will be by Scott Rosenberg (
Beautiful Girls), who will also produce the movie alongside Matt Tolmach (
The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Nira Park.
The book, which was released early this year, is about a plague of six-foot-tall mantises that invade the town of Ealing, Iowa. What do these mantises want? What any adolescent craves: food and sex.
The concept is strange, but it seems to be right up Edgar Wright's alley. Perhaps Wright sees this as an opportunity to show us the the insect movie that he could have made.
