Marvel Comics 12 Issue Limited Series entitled "MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS" started in the summer of 1984 and ran for an entire year. Written by Jim Shooter with Pencils from Mike Zeck and Bob Layton, Secret Wars is a landmark in comic book history. The first major company crossover event of its kind, it changed the landscape of the MARVEL universe as we know it. It's footprints remain in the MARVEL universe still today with characters like Titania, Spiderwoman II, and especially Venom. It was tied into a toy line of the same name in which some characters from the series never made it into the toy line, while some characters in the toy line were never in the series.

In the opening of SECRET WARS a Cosmic Entity with vast power called the Beyonder abducts several of Earth's heroes and villians, and transports them to a planet of his own creation. Once there he bids the two factions to do battle, with the victors to have their greatest wishes granted. The battle did ensue, however things do not always go as planned, as we see in SECRET WARS #10.

With cover art by Mike Zeck we see a beaten down but ever defiant Dr. Doom. Relentless is Dooms attack in the face of near absolute power, and a probable complete and utter defeat. A very "Heroic" cover for someone who is arguably MARVEL Comics Greatest Villian. On the cover Dr. Doom wears his traditional garb, while in the pages of issue #10 he fashions himself a much sleeker armor with the purpose and ability to steal the Beyonders power. In the pages of this issue I find myself rooting for Doom, especially after he had already punked Galactus in a most opportune manner. However, even with added power stolen from Galactus, Doom is still a 100 to 1 underdog in this fight. Even when near death, Doom refuses to accept defeat. He demonstrates a courage and determination to succeed that is usually reserved only for heroes as he reaches out and.....

Well you will just have to read the book.

I hope everyone enjoyed this one. I may very well do more of these.
