It is being reported that a founding member of The Fantastic Four will be killed off – and will stay dead – in an upcoming issue of the long-running Marvel Comic book. Marvel says it will either be Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch or the Thing, and that the death “will ripple across the Marvel Universe like never before,”Fans won’t find out until “Fantastic Four” No. 587 is released in January. But is this death really permenant?Marvel is adamant, noting that once the current story ends in No. 588, the Fantastic Four will cease to exist.

"We've been building to this story and this moment since Jonathan began writing the series around a year and a half ago," Brevoort said. "It's a story that will have a transformative effect on these characters — virtually nothing will be the same after the events of this story. And that was the reason to go this route — to bring about these seismic changes to the characters and to the series."

The bigger question might be how a death in the Fantastic Four universe affects plans for a film-franchise reboot, which reportedly in underway at 20th Century Fox.A permanent death of a founding and important member is something that Fox will not be able to cover up easily.Especialy since by the time the Reboot will be filming, the death story arc will be ingrained in the fan community and media, which will considerably lessen the impact and voracity of a new Fantastic 4 film starring a deceased member. Its not like The X-Men franchise where every mutant is interchangable with 100 others. The Fantastic 4 is the Fantastic 4.

This could have been the plan all along by Marvel.Disney has been on record saying they have their utmost attention on reclaiming the Fantastic 4 rights..By throwing a HUGE wrench into the gears of FOX studios it is possible they will not be able to pull off the deadline for the F4 reboot..details of the contracts are sketchy, but after every some odd years that Fox or Sony does not make a film starring certain characters, the right will revert back to Marvel.

Could this be Marvel/Disney's plan all along to kill off a Prominent member of F4...just to get the rights back?

Intruder, I really don't see this affecting any film rendition bud. I think your view of the situation only holds for us comic readers. In truth the FF is pretty obscure outside comics. If it weren't for the movies, all the non-Comic reading friends of mine would have never even known who they are. I can agree that this may be a tactic with an added bonus of your ideal, but even still I don't think that is the purest motivation behind killing off someone.

Tragically, I think your right about it being Sue they're gonna kill. She has long been my favorite FF member and she is the heart of the team, the only one I can see dieing, and the team breaking as a result. Otherwise, it'd be her to tell the other 2 to suck it up an remember that they're heroes (of course after an appropriate time of grieving, cause Sue is such a sweetheart).

it won't effect the films at all because by the time another film comes out they'll be back in the comics.

i love a good consiracy,what if she dies & turns into a skrull. :P

joking aside it'll make a pleasant change if she stays dead.

if the rights went back to marvel because the fantastic four no longer exists,i say marvel kill everyone of the x-men.

merry christmas,mate.

don't get to drunk like me. :P

They ALWAYS say the character is going to stay dead. The character NEVER does.

@ Intruder

I don't know about this. Mainly because the character they kill will not stay dead. There is just no way. Marvel can say that all they want, but eventually, at some point, the character will be back. ESPECIALLY if the new replacement book/team is a complete failure with the fans.

Also, I don't see how this would affect the movies, but i guess you never know.

The film would just be set before the character was killed plain and simple. The CBMs are in separate universes its very rare that the comic books will effect what happens in the films.
