MEET THE MOVIE PRESS Rumor Round Up: Spider-Man The Flash, & Green Lantern

Jeff Sneider, film reporter of The Wrap, discussed the week's news on Meet The Movie Press, alongside Mark Reilly and Scott Mantz. Spider-Man, The Flash, and Green Lantern were among the topics brought up. Here are some tidbits you may be interested in.

Spider-Man

After initially looking at actors of all ethnicities, Sony and Marvel supposedly have narrowed the search for the next Spider-Man to young (15-18 years), white actors. Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game, Hugo) and Nolan Gould (Modern Family) are among several young actors rumored to have gone in for the part. It is unclear if there is a front runner at this time.

The Flash

Going off of El Mayimbe's tweet last night regarding two directors being up for directing the speedster's solo flick, Sneider hinted that WB and Sony were in a "bit of a tug-of-war" over comedic geniuses Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, The Last Man On Earth) for big franchise projects. The two projects are presumably The Flash and a Ghostbusters film.

Green Lantern

Sneider does think that the character will be Hal Jordan, but does not think Chris Pine will get the job.

They also talk about the growing cast of Suicide Squad, namely Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc and Mantz' big buy on Scott Eastwood. Check out the podcast for April Fools, Furious 7TransformersTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, and more.

I hope the Justice League Green Lantern is Hal Jordan, I'm all for diversity but diversity for diversity's sake just makes Jon Stewart token. Besides they already have a Polynesian Aquaman (BADASS) and Cyborg

As I said, as Miles fan, it makes no sense to introduce him off the bat. His origin is tied with Peter's. He needs to be established first before Miles is even thought about. You can't have Bucky be Cap in the first Captain America movie, it's no different here.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller for The Flash movie?! Man I hope that's true!

Asa Butterfield would be a good choice for Peter.
My personal choice would be Uriah Shelton,
He's pretty good in the Youtube drama Wigs and plays a sarcastic, smart teenager.

Since Spiderman reboot is mentioned, I am legally obliged to say...

BELLA THORNE FOR MJ

I think the No Joke rule is meant more like... You can have humor as a tool, but the movies stake's and problem and such shall not be any jokes (in this cause have the more goofy tone like marvel) but you can use Jokes as a toool

Agreed. If they want more diversity right of the bat, they should get MartianManhunter and get a black guy to play his human alias

I really don't want a kid Peter, especially if he's going to play a big part in Infinity War. I'd rather have an 18-20 year old Parker. I'm an adult. I don't get into children heroes.

hey what about Mateus Ward? he would age better with the role.

@CherryBomb she can't act. but hey, MJ is supposed to be a mediocre actress.

@Emblemmaniac After what Goyer said about Manhunter, do you really think DC will use him?

Whoops typo before,

Uriah is on the Youtube WIGS channel show Blue. My bad.

@NoTucks2Give

Granted she was awful in Shake it Out or whatever it was called. But she's getting good reviews in The Duff and she was really good in Red Band Society.

MJ isn't a Pepper or a Gwen, she's the epitome of a Damsel in Distress, Thorne would do fine.
FightAs0ne
FightAs0ne - 4/3/2015, 12:07 PM
@CherryBomb I think that's what I liked about Gwen in ASM movies. She never felt like a damsel. The Tobey Spider Man movies wore out the MJ Damsel in Distress plot device. They should stay away from it.

"After what Goyer said about Manhunter..."

Isn't Goyer, for all intents and purposes, pretty much out now? I'd imagine they don't care what he says anymore.

Here's hoping they cast someone to portray a Spidey who's closer to 18 than 15 or 16. I'm actually all for a younger Spider-Man and a more interesting dynamic with all the grown-ups on the Avengers...but I'd rather have Parker be in his late teens than still in middle school. Something's just really off about that, IMO.

To be clear, the kid they cast can be as young as they want...but the actual character should be in his late teens, at the least. Whoever they cast should be able to convincingly look the part.

I even think they should introducing Felicia Hardy as his love interest before MJ.
I think that could be a good dynamic to star with.

Well, the thing is with Goyer. Do you really hear from him since he did that Martian Manhunter comment? I think he is pretty much out in doing comicbookadaptations besides being producer of Constantine if it gets a season 2

@Cherry seeing her act in 'Blended' or 'Alexander and the Horrible Movie Title' didn't change my mind about having Thorne as the new Marvel Girl, but then when the Storm role came down to two mocha-skinned pop stars, one being her Shake It Off co-star, I knew she wasn't a right fit for X-Men. And with MJ I don't think she has the right kind magnetism for 'girl next door in New York' when she comes across as a mean Valley Girl in every movie. I pictured someone like Lily Collins playing Watson in the Andrew Garfield Spider-Mans, she has a face for broadway and a classical beauty, and freckles. The freckles are an important feature! Sony/Marvel should just assemble a cast of unknowns, actors without pre-exisiting fanbases ya know?

Well since the Martian Manhunter comment, he has been silent in the media... So i guess that they was not so glad about his comment

@SauronsBANE I hope that Goyer is out. He's been on a downhill since TDKR, then MoS. Better off without him.

@CherryBomb Now I'd love to see Felicia, and a proper one this time. Not like ASM2.

@Gnyah123 Yeah...the Nolan bros deserved more credit. Goyer is a good story ideas guy, but no way should be penning any screenplay in 2015 unless you like unsubtle brick to the face dialogue.
