Following the delay of movies like Kraven the Hunter and Dune: Part Two, the next few months look set to be quieter than expected for theaters. All eyes will be on The Marvels to see if it can reach the same heights as Captain Marvel, while we're hoping Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom ends the DCEU on a positive note.
Filling the void is the concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and, as its October 13 release date nears, it continues to exceed presale ticket expectations.
According to Deadline, advance ticket sales have now reached $65+ million. That tops 2022 hits like The Batman ($42 million) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($60 million), putting Ms. Swift in the same realm as some of cinema's most popular superheroes.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is still the overall record holder with $120 million in presales, but there are those who believe the Grammy winner could catch up with the web-slinger over the next month. In terms of sales within the first 24 hours, however, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour remains the new record-holder with a jaw-dropping $26 million which easily topped No Way Home's $16.9 million.
Insiders are currently predicting an opening weekend of more than $100 million, likely putting it in the same ballpark as movies like Barbie and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Several studios have moved away from Taylor Swift: The Eras tour simply because they're anticipating it dominating multiplexes in the same manner as a Marvel blockbuster. The current plan is for the movie to play for four weekends in a row (not weekdays), but it will be in theaters on Tuesday, October 31 for Halloween.
There's still no word on an international release, a surprise as we're sure it would break records overseas as well. Swift is gearing up to embark on a worldwide tour in 2024, so perhaps the plan is to record a separate version which will play in Europe later next year.
Will you be heading to the theater to watch Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour before The Marvels arrives?
