AVENGERS: ENDGAME Star Josh Brolin Joins The Cast Of Denis Villeneuve's DUNE As Gurney Halleck

According to THR, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame, Deadpool 2) has joined the already star-studded cast of Denis Villeneuve's upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune.

The highly in-demand actor, who celebrated his 50th birthday this week, will play a fan-favorite character named Gurney Halleck, who is a troubadour-swordsman that trains the young Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet)

Dune will also star Javier Bardem as Stilgar Zendaya as Chani Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as "The Beast" Rabban and Charlotte Rampling as the Reverend Mother.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Dune follows the Atreides family as they relocate to the desolate planet of Arrakis to assume control of the production of the most valuable resource in the galaxy, the Spice Melange. Unfortunately, an act of treachery soon makes an outcast of The Duke Atreides' youngest son Paul, and he must accept his destiny as a powerful prophet of the Arrakis natives known as The Fremen.

There have been several different adaptions of Dune over the years, the most famous - or infamous, depending on your perspective - is David Lynch's ambitious, but flawed 1984 movie starring Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Kyle MacLachlan. This latest take will be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

Hmmm. Inspired choice. And definitely looks more like a security chief than Patrick Stewart in the original.

I read Dune, wasn't into it, yet I am very excited to see how this movie turns out.

Dune is such an amazing book. It is too complex for a single movie in my opinion. I was a big fan of the SyFY mini-series. I am loving the casting choices for this, though.

This is definitely shaping up to be an event film with this cast, we need more hard Sci-fi films! Use your brains general audience! Not everything has to be dripping with sweat, cheese and firecrackers lol

@bobevanz - "we need more hard sci-fi films" should be carved into a mountain top.

I'm one of the minority of people who thought Lynch's Dune wasn't THAT bad. It isn't great either, but it's obviously juggling a lot.

I'm curious of the run time of this new film, and/or if this is just act one of a planned trilogy. Dune is a huge story and like Watchmen for example, considered to be pretty much "unadaptable". I'm cautiously interested in this one.
