The Peter Jackson-produced Mortal Engines, which has earned unfavorable reviews to date, is facing quite the uphill battle this coming weekend as it faces-off with Sony's critically-acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and is currently looking at a potential debut in the $10 million to $17 million range, which would be a monumental disappointment considering its reported $100 million to $150 million production budget.
The Christian Rivers-directed adaptation of the popular book of the same name has already rolled out in a number of international territories, including Korea, Russia, and Australia, earning just over 20.1 million.
The film stars Hera Hilmar (Da Vinci's Demons) as the film's heroine, Hester Shaw, and features a supporting cast that includes Hugo Weaving (Captain America: The First Avenger), Robert Sheehan (Mute), Jihae (Mars), Leila George (The Long Home), Ronan Raftery (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Patrick Malahide (Game of Thrones), Stephen Lang (Avatar), and Colin Salmon (Krypton), amongst others.
