CLEOPATRA Taps FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER Director As Patty Jenkins Shifts Focus To ROGUE SQUADRON

CLEOPATRA Taps FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER Director As Patty Jenkins Shifts Focus To ROGUE SQUADRON

There have been some big changes to that Cleopatra movie starring Gal Gadot, as Patty Jenkins has handed directing duties over to Kari Skogland in order to focus on Wonder Woman 3 and Rogue Squadron...

We recently learned that Lucasfilm's next Star Wars movie, Rogue Squadron, had been delayed due to director Patty Jenkins having some undisclosed scheduling issues. There was no word on what they might be, leading to speculation that the filmmaker might have parted ways with the studio over possible "creative differences."

Of course, it was shaping up to be an extremely busy few years for Jenkins between Rogue Squadron, Wonder Woman 3, and her Cleopatra movie that's set to feature Gal Gadot in the title role. With that in mind, those so-called scheduling issues were easy enough to buy into!

Either way, something had to give, and Deadline is now reporting that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland is replacing Jenkins as the director of Paramount Pictures' Cleopatra. She will now serve as a producer, and the trade notes that the Wonder Woman 1984 helmer is using this opportunity to focus on both the sequel to that 2020 release and Rogue Squadron.

In other words, she remains attached to that adventure in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, and this news could free her up to begin working on the movie sooner than we expected.

As for Skogland, it's said that "the scope of [The Falcon and The Winter Soldier], which played like a Marvel tentpole, appealed to execs for what they are aiming for with this film." Chances are this takes her out of the running for Captain America 4, though it will depend on how quickly all of these projects begin production as we head into 2022.

What are your thoughts on this change in direction for Cleopatra

Cleopatra is the Jenkins movie I was looking forward the least anyway. Hope this means we'll get Rogue Squadron in 2023 again then

It's been a while since they made an epic historical film. I'm sure Gal Gadot will do fine, but I personally wanted Jennifer Aniston as Cleopatra

Yeah something indeed had to give considering how fast they're trying to get WW3 out.

After Wonder Woman 1984, I'm really not surprised that she's having "scheduling conflicts" with Disney and "creative differences" with Paramount.
Warner Bros. are the only ones stupid enough to make another Wonder Woman sequel with her, so I predict here and now that WW3 will be the next project she does.

Sorry to be blunt. Somebody has to.

@GwenLantern - only so Warner Bros can sell it as a trilogy, with box sets of the trilogy. Hopefully part 3 is better, that way, WW84 is the only stinker in the set. This also gives Patty Jenkins more time to concentrate on writing a better script for part 3. This is a good idea for everyone involved.

It would have been WW without powers and a really long time ago. Now this has a chance

'Cleopatra' had Oscar-bait for Gadot and Jenkins written all over it.
And without getting in too deep in order to not get bashed by the fans on here: I don't think Gal is good enough of an actress to deserve one (I'll gladly let her prove me otherwise)

"the scope of [The Falcon and The Winter Soldier], which played like a Marvel tentpole, appealed to execs for what they are aiming for with this film."

So... they want an action/superhero film? Look, I'm all for reimagining the Antony/Cleopatra story as a love story between two superheroes, but it does seem like a weird direction to go.

@BecauseICare - There are probably going to be big battle scenes with armies and such.

Isn’t rogue squadron indefinitely delayed? It’s not even on the lucasfilm calendar anymore…
