Is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Star Will Poulter Angling To Play STAR WARS: JEDI's Cal Kestis?

Despite Cameron Monaghan playing Cal Kestis in the Star Wars: Jedi video games, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Will Poulter remains a popular alternative. Now, the actor has addressed the possibility.

The Jedi: Fallen Order video game was a bigger hit than anyone expected (especially coming from EA), and the story of young Jedi Cal Kestis was one that fans instantly seemed to respond to. As a result, the character has since become a firm fan favourite, with the hope being that he will eventually appear in a live-action project.

Cal's story will continue in next year's Jedi: Survivor, with Gotham alum Cameron Monaghan reprising the role. In recent years, we've seen actors who have lent their voices to characters in animation bring them into a live-action setting (Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, for example), while others have been replaced (Rosario Dawson took over as Ahsoka Tano from Ashley Eckstein).

There continue to be rumours online that Gotham alum Cameron Monaghan will bring his video game protagonist to the big or small screen, but could another actor beat him to it?

Talking on The Movie Dweeb (via SFFGazette.com), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Will Poulter was asked about potentially travelling to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. The hosts mentioned that he's a popular suggestion to play Cal given the physical similarities between them, and there's no denying that he's a bigger star than Monaghan.

While he's not familiar with the character or game, Poulter replied, "I definitely would not say no. I mean I was a huge Star Wars fan as a kid. I can remember wearing like a brown bathrobe and getting a lightsaber, made out of a neon-painted cardboard wrapping paper tube."

Something tells us Star Wars fans wouldn't be happy with Monaghan being replaced, and Poulter does have a cosmic future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Adam Warlock. Asked if he hopes to keep returning to that role for years to come, he said, "I really hope so, dude. You know, I don't honestly know what the plan is, I mean that is, hand on heart, you know the truth."

We'll see what happens, but there are plenty of upcoming Star Wars projects we could see Cal Kestis in over the next few years. Whether that's the plan at Lucasfilm remains to be seen.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.

The guy playing Cal is already is an one screen actor so it would makes you cast the voice/motion capture actor. I don’t think Cal should even get a movie. The game is great. They’ll [frick] it up.

If that's true, f@#$ you, lucasfilms. Cameron is a very skilled actor who already had a reputation before getting this role. If you want Will to be in star wars, then make a character for him.

@Origame - It's not true. None of this is true. This was just Will Poulter talking about it, and nothing more. This is just once again Josh Wilding being a tabloid writer.

@RevanIsMyMan - plus, Star Wars doesn’t need a big name actor. The IP is the star, and Stars Wars throughout its history has made stars out of actors who weren’t household names.

I feel like actors should kind of respect the roles they take. If they go to Monaghan first and then he refuses, then sure. But I'm sure the actor already playing him would love to reprise his role in live-action. It's not like he's solely a voice actor.

@Himura - yeah. If you see the process for modern video game actors, it's more what you'd expect from Hollywood actors than the sitting in the booth process we remember it being. Hell, they actually had to replace the voice of Kratos for God of War 2018 in order to get someone built more like him.

I'm not sure what the point is of having Cal show up in a show. He's basically doing the same thing as Luke, just earlier in the timeline. He's trying to build a new Jedi Order. And he obviously fails at that since he's never heard from in any other media, or anything after Rogue One. He clearly doesn't end up building a new Jedi Order lol.

Wtf? Saw Gerrera was in Star Wars Jedi and it was Forest Whittaker. Why wouldn't you take Cameron Monaghan to portray the live action version when he is a live action actor?

Maybe it's best that Poulter sticks to Adam Warlock instead of trying to bite more than he could chew and Monaghan plays one day his SW characters if that is what Lucasfilm desires.

Nah, that's messy. Just let Cameron Monaghan do it, it's literally his face, voice, and probably motion capture too.

Why not Cameron Monaghan? He did the part in the game and he is a solid actor.
