We've seen a few images for the upcoming animated series Star Wars Resistance, but now we have our first official trailer for the Disney Channel show.

As advertised, the trailer features appearances from a few popular characters like Poe Dameron and BB-8, with Dameron ordering Resistance member Kazudo Xiono to act as a spy and learn who is loyal to their mission to stop the First Order.

Along with these fun cameos, the footage also features some of the excitement that you expect in a Star Wars program, including the exchange of blaster fire and a few shots of the show's ace pilots in action.

Check out the humorous first trailer for Star Wars Resistance below:

Going cel-shaded Animation for this one, eh? I can’t say any of the story beats or characters grabbed me in this trailer, but then I’ve only occasionally watched the Star Wars cartoons.

This doesn't look good, in all honesty. People complained too much that Star Wars Rebels was a "kid's show" by comparing it too much to The Clone Wars (which was actually an adult's show).

But while Rebels was aimed at all ages, it looks like the naysayers are about to find out what an actual kid's show looks like... Along with everyone else. I just hope that nothing important happens in it that would make it essential viewing, timeline-wise.

@Darkknight2149 - Rebels wasn't as good as Clone Wars, both in terms of animation style or writing, but it was still a really good series. Season 2 & 3 suffered from too much filler but the characters were well written and in many ways it worked very well as a companion piece/follow up to Clone Wars.

@Darkknight2149 - I think the fact that the movies have returned factors into what they're willing to do with animation. When Clone Wars debuted, there weren't plans to do more films so they could cover whatever story they wanted to within that time period as long as it fit within continuity. Now they're playing second fiddle to the live action projects. By the looks of this, it'll be a fun, low stakes show of little consequence to the overall narrative. It seems primarily geared towards younger fans of the new films. They're likely saving the more mature, ambitious, and significant stories for the films (that people have to pay to see) and the live action series from Jon Favreau (that incentivizes paying for the Disney streaming service). The Clone Wars revival season may be the last hurrah for Star Wars animation that has adult fans in mind.

@BIGBMH -
Yeah, if there's any silver lining to this, it's that we will still have the upcoming season (seasons?) of The Clone Wars, regularly released films, comics, books, and the Jon Favreau TV show. So it's not like Resistance will be the only thing to get Star Wars fans their fix, although it still looks bad IMO.

The Clone Wars animation style looks so much better.

To be honest, the show looks like generic, childish shit. But we shall see.

I won't judge the tone of the show based on the trailer. Both rebels and clone wars have shown that they are capable of a more mature tone.

Story seems distinct Clone Wars and Rebels (eg the Ahsoka to Ezra storyline) so I hope that indicate and Ahsoka Sabine show is in the works,

However, I really dislike the the animation style. It looks great for evironment, ships and bb8, but it horrible on the humans/alien characters.

I think they should have went wiht a 2D style wiht 3D ship models (like futurama); the Korra style of animation.

@StormXmen123 - Wow korra style? i could totally see that.

@StormXmen123 - Well studio Mir (Avatar, Legend of Korra, Voltron) will be finishing up Voltron this year so maybe Filoni can tap them for the next project. I'd love to see them team with Lucasfilm.

Looks fine. Just makes it more obvious how dirty they've done Poe Dameron. That guy is so underused and has so much potential to be a killer character. Hopefully IX corrects this. (Finn's character also suffered by TLJ's writing. Heck everyone suffered from TLJ).

@Super12 - *TFA writing

none of the new characters except maybe Kylo have been any good definitely Rey and Finn. I think Poe was originally supposed to die so I give him a pass.

The story could be good, but I don't know how anyone can sit through that bad animation to find out.

I almost expected Lilo and Stitch to pop out somewhere. They have truly Disnified Starwars.

ehh, for a show called "Star Wars: Resistance" there doesn't seem to be much...resisting. I thought it was going to be warfare focused or spy focused, kinda like Rebels. instead it seems to be about...racing with ships?

I'm also disappointed in the visuals. they said it was "anime inspired", so I was expecting either a clean 2D animation style with 3D elements (like Netflix's Voltron) or a fully 3D anime style of animation (like Ajin or Knights of Sidonia). intead it's just generic cell-shaded 3D straight out of something Cartoon Network would have made 5 years ago to sell Hot Wheels cars.

ps: I just imagined the Voltron staff working their style into a Star Wars series and kinda drooled a little over my keyboard.
