THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Director Taika Waititi Reveals Main Challenge He's Faced Writing STAR WARS Movie

With Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron seemingly on hold for reasons which still aren't clear to Star Wars fans, it's looking like our next trip to this Galaxy Far, Far Away in theaters will be Taika Waititi's mysterious project. The filmmaker helmed "Chapter 8" of The Mandalorian and is writing the screenplay for this movie alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917).

Doing the rounds to promote his role in Pixar's Lightyear, Waititi shared an update on his big screen Star Wars plans and the challenge he's facing in making sure it both feels unique and does the franchise justice.

"That's yet to be seen. I don't know. I'm still writing," he told Screen Rant (via SFFGazette.com) about how work is progressing. "I'm still coming up with the ideas and storylining it and just wanted to make sure that it feels like a Star Wars film."

"Because, I could say, 'Oh yeah, we'll just write any old thing and set in space and then put Star Wars on the front.' But it wouldn't be a Star Wars film without certain elements and a certain treatment," Waititi continued, "so I've just got to make sure that it stays within that wheelhouse."

While Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has suggested that Waititi's movie will be released in 2023, it sounds like there's still a lot of work to be done before cameras can start rolling. The filmmaker is also set to direct it, of course, and has Thor: Love and Thunder to finish off before he can shift focus to the Star Wars franchise.

With that in mind, we'd be shocked if this movie arrives before 2024, but it's going to be fun to see what Waititi has planned for this Galaxy given his phenomenal track record as a director.

He's right. This is why I felt like the Mods in Book of Boba Fett took the show out for me. The one guy had the most New York fade I have seen yet somehow that was approved for someone who lived on Tattooine. Taika is very silly and out there with his writing but he definitely takes pride in his approach. That's why I love What we do in the Shadows so much. It's been a consistent season after season.

As long as he doesn't make it a full on comedy movie.

I mean I'd rather have him take his time than have a rushed mess like some of the other previous SW projects come off as.

Super excited to see what Taika comes up with. But equally worried what Kathleen Kennedy may do behind the scenes to ruin Taikas' vision, and or possibly scare him off! Here's hoping they're letting him have his freedom.

Waititi’s biggest challenge is finding a way to make Star Wars campy and silly.

@SpaceParanoids - I don’t see why that would be a challenge. It’s always been that.

Taika hasn't made a bad movie yet, and he's working with a great writer in Krysty Wilson-Cairns. If there's any Star Wars project that has my undivided attention and anticipation, it's this one.

Hope y'all enjoy Vader bragging about the length of his lightsaber and being introduced to Yoda's New Zealand-accented cousin, YOLOda.

They're shadows of their former selves 😐

They're like 40 year olds telling stories about their high school glory days🤡

They're like that 40 year old woman in the club still acting like a 20 something acting like she doesn't have kids at home and work in the morning 🙆

Star wars is an aimless IP still stuck in the past🤡🤡🤡

Wtf is the point of even having sister sites when you double and triple dip the same damn articles across them all? Josh.... you are evil. Like if a contributor could legit be a super villain, you it.
