Disney Plans To Continue Making Movies Based On ALIEN, PLANET OF THE APES, And More

There's been a lot of Fox casualties in the merger with Disney, but the latter's presentation during CinemaCon last night saw studio bosses assure those in attendance that key franchises will live on...

During Disney's panel at CinemaCon last night, the studio confirmed plans to continue working on a number of Fox's franchises. It's said that the studio most definitely "intend to do our part and it is in that spirit that we will continue to create new stories."

The franchises named were Alien, Avatar, Kingsman, Maze Runner, and Planet of the Apes. They are the now Disney-owned studio's biggest gems and with Avatar already in theme parks, it makes sense to continue expanding the other movies whether they also become somewhere we can visit in places like Orlando and Hong Kong or not!

Each of them has a great deal of potential on the big screen, and there's a chance many of them could be adapted into TV shows for the Disney+ streaming service.

While the X-Men and Fantastic Four were key acquisitions in Disney's merger with Fox, there are a lot of franchises they can play with now and it will be great seeing all of these live on. As of right now, we don't know whether Disney plans on continuing with Fox's ideas for them or starting from scratch, but plans will no doubt start becoming clearer over the next year or two.

I don't think this was ever in any doubt

@DnA - I just wonder if it's going to be a reboot or sequel to what rupert wyatt and matt reeves did with the franchise. I will hate Disney if they end up making it like Jurassic World to be more family and summer friendly.

War of the planet of the apes severely underperformed at the box office compared to dawn, so there are doubts.

I’ve been waiting 33 years for a proper follow-up to ALIENS. Make it happen, Disney.

Always down for more Apes films. One of the best franchises ever made, probably my all time. War is absolutely phenomenal

@Cap1 - I totally agree! First time I watched it, it took me like five minutes to recognize it was a masterpiece.

@suitekid - Absolutely, was completely mesmerised when I saw it in the cinema. Properly took my breath away, so much thought and heart went into it and it shows.

@Cap1 - the new Apes series is top 3 best series going right now outside of Marvel. I'd say it's right there with the last 3 MI movies and the John Wick series. Can't wait to see more

@MotherGooseUPus - right on the money with that comment!

@Cap1 - I love it's willingness to let the visuals do the talking. It's rare for a blockbuster to have the stretches of silence that it has.

I enjoyed the POTA remamkes and liked that they gave it a true ENDING. Of course, there's other stories they could explore in that universe, and I wouldn't mind seeing them. Aliens on the other hand...that franchise is DEAD.

Wasn't Apes properly concluded? Great franchise btw.
But Alien had a hard time getting a worthy sequel since Alien 3 pretty much screwed up.
And under Diseny's direction, I can't see that happening. Except we are ready for some comedic take on these franchises.

It would be great an animated series of Avatar developed by Genndy Tartakovsky, to continue the story of Jake Sully.
