ATLAS: Jennifer Lopez Learns To "Trust A.I." In Full Trailer For Netflix's Sci-Fi Thriller

Following last month's first look, Netflix has released a full trailer for Rampage director Brad Peyton's new sci-fi action thriller, Atlas, and it looks... about how you'd expect!

Netflix has released the full trailer for Rampage and San Andreas director Brad Peyton's upcoming sci-fi thriller, Atlas, which stars Jennifer Lopez (Cell, The Mother) as a woman who must learn to "trust A.I." when she finds herself being forced to team-up with a robot Mech suit in an attempt to bring the world’s first A.I. terrorist (Shang Chi's Simu Liu) to justice.

We first heard about this project back in 2021 when it was in development at Warner Bros., but it's undergone quite a few changes since. Aron Eli Coleite penned the most recent draft of the script, while Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell will produce for Safehouse Pictures along with Peyton and Jeff Fierson for ASAP Entertainment.

Lopez plays Atlas Shepard, "a woman fighting for humanity in a future where an AI soldier has determined the only way to end war is to end humanity. To out think this rogue AI, Atlas must work with the one thing she fears most — another AI."

Lopez tells EW that she decided to sign on to play the lead when she read the script and was "brought to tears"

“It’s a story of friendship and learning how to trust; the bond between two beings who connect in disastrous circumstances and teach each other how to be more human,” she says. "It was like doing a one-woman show. You’re just there, by yourself, imagining everything because it’s all green screen — there was no set to ground you."

With A.I. currently being pushed as the "way forward" by major Hollywood studios, the premise has understandably raised a few eyebrows, and some have already written this one off as little more than A.I. propaganda.

Check out the trailer below along with a new poster, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

“I’m so honored to be working with Jennifer, Elaine and the rest of the team at Nuyorican Productions along with our partners Joby and Tory at Safehouse,” Peyton said back when the project was first announced. “Having the chance to direct Jennifer in the title role of this movie is a dream come true, as I know she’ll bring the incredible strength, depth and authenticity we’ve all come to admire from her work. Furthermore, Jeff and I are so excited to be back working with Scott, Ori and the entire team at Netflix. They have been nothing short of amazing to work with and we are blessed to have the opportunity to make another movie on the service.”

The official synopsis reads: "Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from A.I. is to trust it."

Atlas also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong. The movie is set to premiere on Netflix on May 24.

Would never get made today.

@marvel72 - I don't know, it's still some pretty edgy stuff still coming out.

As long as the intent of the movie is not to be malicious, I think it can still get done.

“Atlas Shepherd”

This must be one of those heavily nuanced movies with a subtle message.

Seems mediocre imo but I would be glad to be proven wrong…

If I do check it out , it’ll likely be to see Simu Liu as the villain.

If Lopez could act it might be ‘okay’ but she’s [frick]ing horrible to try and watch. She can’t act. And this whole career revival she’s going for that’s taking like a ton of lead in the ocean is [frick]ing hilarious.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 4/24/2024, 9:46 AM
@Deklipz - damn , she seems fine to me but I haven’t seen a lot of her acting work
Deklipz
Deklipz - 4/24/2024, 11:59 AM
@TheVisionary25 - it’s horrible. She’s NOT an actress and it shows glaringly. IMO the only reason she’s doing so many movies is because she knows musically she has very little support nowadays and she’s trying to find a new way to stay relevant. It’s kind of sad.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 4/24/2024, 12:03 PM
@Deklipz - oh well , to each their own

I thought she started out as an actress?.
Deklipz
Deklipz - 4/24/2024, 3:29 PM
@TheVisionary25 - I thought she was a singer first? Wasn’t it a big deal that she went into acting while she and affleck were [frick]ing the first time? I though Jersey Girl was her first or close to first movie
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 4/24/2024, 4:03 PM
@Deklipz - no , she’s been acting since the 90’s
RolandD
RolandD - 4/24/2024, 6:14 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Selina was her first big role if I am not mistaken. I also believe that was before her music career took off at all.
Deklipz
Deklipz - 4/24/2024, 6:17 PM
@RolandD - To be fair, looking at her filmography prior to her first album, it’s pretty clear why I had no idea she was an actress. She was in a LOT of trash and outside of Selena nothing significant until after she started singing.

You know what if I had to choose between Jennifer Lopez or A.I I'd trust the A.I.

I'll give it a shot.

A bottle of tequila, a package of peanut butter cookies, & Jennifer Lopez. I could (and many times have) do a lot worse.
