Avatar Wins big at Golden Globes

Avatar Wins big at Golden Globes

See which Awards James Cameron's Avatar took home tonight at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards as well as a few other CBM.com favorites!

James Cameron took home the Best Director award for his smash hit "Avatar." Add to that the Best Motion Picture- Drama award and it is officially a power house in the award world.

With these wins, I can't help but think that "Avatar" will also be a force to be reckoned with at the 2010 Academy Awards, at least in the Best Director and Best Picture categories and of course the Effects Category.

Personally, I'd rather have seen the "Hurt Locker" or "Inglorius Basterds" take home these awards, but hey...what do I know?

Christoph Waltz did take home a Golden Globe for his role in "Inglorious Basterds," which was well deserved.

Robert Downey, Jr. took home the award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Drama for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, which was also well deserved.

Compared to many people on CBM, I'm a relative newbie to the comic book world. I've just recently (within the last 10 years or so) started reading comics. However, I've been a fan of comic book characters nearly all my life, thanks to cartoons like the X-Men Series and Batman. Been downhill ever since.

I am an avid movie watcher and run my own movie website,(GeekBoyMovieNews) which covers a wide variety of movies, books and television news. There is nothing better to me than to sit back and a enjoy a good movie, or a crappy one for a good laugh.

While you may not see a lot of articles submitted by me, I've been an active user for close to three years here on CBM and I enjoy every minute on here. We have the best online community on the net her at CBM.com.

I've been lucky enough to climb the ranks here at CBM and the almighty Galactus has chosen me to act as one of his Heralds (Jr. Editor). So if you ever need suggestions or help on articles, I am more than happy to help out; you can find me in the CBM chat quite often. I also assist Big G in his "Beat Galactus Quizzes," so if you feel like you have a good question for the next quiz or suggestions on making them work better and more smoothly, feel free to drop me a line.

I look forward to talking and discussing comic books and their movies with all of you on the site!

Best Motion Picture - Drama?

Are you serious? It won over Hurt Locker? What is this, amateur hour?

@Tyler- I agree. Hurt Locker got the shaft in both those categories.

@Kes- No CG awards tonight, that's at the Oscars. "Up" won for Best Original Score and the song from "Crazy Heart" won Best Song. And yes, Waltz did win for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Motion Picture

Well this overrated movie just seems to be getting more and more fame. Shame too, because there were movies ten times better than Avatar in '09. Did The Hurt Locker win a single Award? Was Moon nominated for anything? Of course not. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Avatar won the Oscar for best picture in march. I shudder at the thought of what flashy films will get all the "important" awards next year. At least The Hangover pulled through.

If Avatar wins Best Picture at the Oscars, I don't even know what I'll do.

@Tyler

But unfortunately, it is the most probable thing that'll happen. Mainly why I've stopped watching the Oscars for a few years now. Quality is Diminishing in films in favor of technology.

@Kes

Well that's mainly due to the raised prices for 3D and IMAX, but a victory nonetheless i suppose

btw, did I ever mention how awesome your avatar is?

@Dogs

lol! Laser Cats rule!

Lee: It's a f*cking movie. You need to chill out, lay off the Kool-Aid, and accept that other people have other opinions.

Hurt Locker is twice the movie Avatar is. Better characters, better script, better performances, etc.

I wanted basterds to win more awards, at least for screenplay.
Glad the hangover won, well deserved.
And did anyone else see Downey jnr on the red carpet, first he tried to avoid being spoken too (which couldve just been him mucking around) and then he wouldn't say anything about Iron Man II. Maybe he's been told to keep a lid on things because samuel l jackson who was with him didn't say much either. Maybe too much has been revealed already. Anyways wasn't a bad night for the cbm / sci fi world.
