BLADE RUNNER 2099 Prime Video Series Enlists GAME OF THRONES Director Jeremy Podeswa To Helm Pilot

Following a recent rumor that Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, Free Guy) might be in talks to play the lead, THR reports that Prime Video's upcoming Blade Runner 2099 series has added another director.

Four-time Emmy nominee Jeremy Podeswa (Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Mosquito Coast) has been enlisted to helm the pilot episode, and will also serve as producing director and an executive producer on the show.

The report makes no mention of Comer or any other potential cast members.

Ridley Scott, who will executive produce and direct several episodes, closed the deal with Amazon Studios in early 2022. Silka Luisa is currently writing the series, and will also serve as showrunner.

“The original ‘Blade Runner’ film, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce ‘Blade Runner 2099’ to our global Prime Video customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios in a statement last year. “We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the ‘Blade Runner’ franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, ‘Blade Runner 2099’ will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but the title obviously suggests that the series will be set long after the events of Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, so Harrison Ford is highly unlikely to return as Deckard - unless they finally decide to definitively reveal him as a replicant!

Production is expected to get underway later this year, so casting details should begin to come our way soon enough.

Both Blade Runner are masterpieces in my opinion. I hope this show will be as good.

Something tells me Ridley Scott had a chip on his shoulder because someone made a better BR movie, and since Denis isn't involved it makes even more sense! Who cares, Dune part 2 is gonna make a billion and win 6 academy awards, let's gooo

@bobevanz - As great as 2049 is, it's not better than the original. Plus, Dune part 2 will need to be significantly better than the first one to win 6 academy awards. Hope it is though.

Podeswa is a great reason to bring up Station Eleven again, since he directed a couple of those episodes too. That show was awesome (dare even say Station Eleven > The Last of Us). And based on those episodes, I trust him with directing dystopian future.
