Filming Begins On FX's Live-Action Far Cry Series from Noah Hawley and Rob Mac

FX’s live-action Far Cry TV series with Rob McElhenney, Noah Hawley, Lizzy Caplan, and Steve Buscemi has officially started filming.

FX’s live-action Far Cry series officially kicked off cameras today, almost a year after it was first announced back in late 2025.

The adaptation is stacked with talent behind the camera, co-produced by Rob Mac (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Fargo mastermind Noah Hawley, who is running the show (FX's Alien: Earth).

Mac is also stepping in front of the camera, joining a stellar main cast that includes Steve Buscemi and Lizzy Caplan.

Plot specifics are being kept under lock and key, so we don't know just yet if Hawley and Mac are leaning into the franchise's weirder sci-fi roots or sticking strictly to grounded, explosive action. Either way, production is officially underway.

Instead of lifting the story directly from Far Cry 3, Far Cry 5, or any single entry, the series is taking a bigger-picture approach. It’s built to capture what makes the whole Ubisoft franchise tick: that raw survival vibe, the total unhinged chaos, and the anthology setup where every new installment stands on its own. It's been previously reported that each subsequent season of Far Cry will feature a brand new cast.

Previously, Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, stated via press release, "FX has had magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn't be more excited that they are teaming up for Far Cry. I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is original, gripping and wildly entertaining. We also want to thank our partners at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this beloved property."

Hawley also shared, "What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is it's an anthology. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a theme. To create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens is a dream come true. I'm excited to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen."

Hawley is also currently serving as showrunner on FX's Alien: Earth season 2, and he admitted that this will be an extremely busy moment in his life.

"There will be a moment where I am running two shows at the same time, so you make choices," he previously stated.

He went on to add, "I’ve built them both out of London at Pinewood and there is a secondary location that will serve both shows. I’ve tried to be smart about it. We have most of Alien written and we’re halfway through the other show. Once we have the scripts, it’s less my job and more someone else’s."

@TheAmericanHero - He's the main antagonist in the 3rd game and yes that was the actor for Scorpion. This was one of his first roles that launched his career a bit.

@Irregular - but better call Saul is what blasted him to the big leagues. It was around the height of that show he got the role of Mac Gargan.

@Irregular - 3 was actually the only Far Cry I ever played, game wise. I dabbled with the map builder in previous Far Crys but never played the story. Far Cry 3 was the first I did. I never connected the dots that was him until seeing the cover on the banner again.

@TheAmericanHero -

Naw. Scorpion supposedly left this site years ago.

@TheAmericanHero - All of the games are worth playing. Part 5 and Far Cry Primal, you play as a caveman, are stand outs.

@Wahhvacado - Ok...
I've been playing "Far Cry 3" since it literally came out, but I was TODAY YEARS OLD when I realized F**KING VAAS is F**KING SCORPION!!!!
Like, I actually feel a little ashamed of myself. Really.

Cool!!.

I’m assuming McElhenney is playing like a mercenary or something sent to take down a dictator or corrupt leader of some kind played by Steve Buscemi who can definitely play unhinged & larger then life which is a trademark of the Far Cry series.

Regardless of what it is , I’m looking forward to it especially since Mac gets to play an action hero finally..;)!!.

That's a great duo for this project. Gonna be interesting to see how far they'll lean into the more comedic aspects of the games.

Soooooo pumped for this!
The Far Cry series is my "go-to" fps.
I can understand not directly adapting one of the games, but still, to NOT see Vaas is a gotdam shame. He's one of my all time favorite video game villains.

Very spot on. This franchise is in great hands...THE GAMES on the other hand though!

@Irregular - I enjoyed all the games. 6 was a little "too big".
Supposedly 7 is going to have some type of ticking clock mechanic.
I think after the last 2 that something smaller and more concentrated would be refreshing.

@Irregular - I would love if they based a season of the show off of the "Blood Dragon" game!

I’ve never played the game, but now the game and show have my attention.

I’ll give both a shot.
