BOX OFFICE: THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY Set To Win Thanksgiving Weekend

The Thanksgiving weekend looks set to provide a boost to the movies currently open at the North American box office, and despite tough competition from a handful of new releases, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 looks set to once again come out at #1...

It looks like The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 will be the #1 movie at the box office this weekend, with a boost from the Thanksgiving holiday. Horrible Bosses 2 and Penguins of Madagascar are going to take some of the attention away from the big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novel, but likely won't be able to top the $80 million haul which the first half of The Hunger Games finale will earn. Instead, they're each expected to earn somewhere between $35 - $45 million each. These are all fairly early predictions, but the Jennifer Lawrence led flick should come out on top regardless. The Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens teaser likely won't make a difference either, especially as it's now been confirmed to be released online tomorrow (details on that here if you missed them). If none of the movies above appeal to you, then hunt down The Imitation Game starring Benedict Cumberbatch (a.k.a. the future Doctor Strange).

The bump from the star wars trailer won't be even a rounding error anyway. Its 30 theaters were talking about.

Horrible Bosses 2 is considered tough competition?

This will definitely not hold as good as Catching Fire so it will probably drop 55-60% making around 55 millions this weekend. Still, the movie is doing really well.

Oh and for the guys wanting Mckingjay to surpass TF4, it won't. It will make around 325M domestic and 500M internationally (at most), 825M worldwide. The Hobbit is the only movie that could do more than TF4 this year.

The final Hobbit movie will make big bank has the best chance to beat TF4. Hunger games has made 400m domestic its last two outing about the same overseas. Will see how well it does there don't think it will have the numbers to beat TF4 however.

Originally not a fan of the Hunger Games, I must admit this entry was pretty good; I'm actually excited for Mockingjay part 2.

I liked it, felt to slow paced. Liam Hemsworth is my favorite to play Green Lantern now.

Really enjoyed this film. Parts really got me emotional. Films don't often do that for me.

The cliffhanger should have been a couple of minutes earlier though.

I really liked the movie. Now knowing the direction they are taking, there was no reason other than financial that this movie was broken into two.
