Dennis Quaid Sheds Some Light on Pandorum

Pandorum opens Friday, but Dennis Quaid is ready for a sequel...or a prequel!

Pandorum opens on 2,400 screens this Friday, but there's still not much known about German director Christian Alvart's (Case 39) latest movie. Called a blend of the sci-fi and horror genres, Pandorum tells the story of two crew members on a deep space mission who wake up with amnesia and discover they are lost, but not alone. Actor Dennis Quaid ( G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) stars as Lt. Payton, one of the crew members on the mission, and he told Movieweb that it was writer Travis Malloy's "unique storyline" that drew him to the role.

"It is hard to find any movie that is worthy. A lot of these scripts out there are so derivative. When I read a script, it is the only time I get to be an audience member. It's the first time I am dealing with it. I thought to myself, 'Wow.' I read it in one sitting, and I couldn't put it down. I didn't know what was going to happen until the very end. And it had such a great twist. It surprised even me. It is original, and unique."

While aliens feature in the film, Quaid says they're not what you might expect.

"Our aliens, they're not really 'aliens.' They're more human. There are some terrifying things out there that we do find, but the question of this movie is 'Are we who we think we are?'"

Quaid was so enthused by the script and by the production that he's already planning a return to the set.

"[When I read the script] I didn't know where it was taking me, and where it was taking me was pretty fantastic. I said, 'Here's a movie that I would like to see.' Ultimately, if the movie is a success, there's a prequel and a sequel."

Pandorum opens September 25th!

@Bijous: Hey, if you liked Soderbergh's Solaris, you should try to see the original Russian version. It's really, really long, but it's a great piece of sci-fi cinema.

@tea: It looks friggin' awesome! I love sci-fi, it's probably my favorite genre, but it's gotta be real good. I can't even watch the Sci-Fi channel or SyFy or whatever it's called because most of the shows are chum.

When I watch a trailer and think, 'Hey this would make a great video game', the movie usually sucks. This is what how I felt watching the trailer for this.

I like him in that movie where he's in 1969 and talks to his son in the present time through a Ham radio. Great film.

@tea: Ha! Right? I just put down his most recent flick. After this comes out, I'll be able to write, "...actor Dennis Quaid (Pandorum) will appear in..."

500 people showed up for the screening in Mission Valley last night; most of them got turned away, including me. I think this movie is going to be huge!!!

No, Alien 3 (Alien cubed?) was no Alien or Aliens, but I enjoyed it more than Alien 4 because there was some good acting and it played up the same theme that the first two explored: humans can be more deadly/savage than the aliens.

This looks like one of the better fall movies coming out to me. I'll go see it.

Yeah Randy Quaid's also in Kingpin and Independence Day (he's the drunk guy who lives in the trailer with his kids and does crop dusting) - got caught pullin' a Hunter S. Thompson haha...

Don't know why Dennis Quaid did GI Joe - must've been good money, and this is not too long after his baby twins almost died from an overdose of heparin - maybe one did even. The guy is a great actor, I just think he had a bad couple of years.

And in his younger years, if you've seen The Big Easy, you know he'd have made a killer Gambit - was absolutely perfect.

hah this has nothing to do with this article, but Kevin Smith was just on Jimmy Fallen talkin' about autographing some dude's ass, and Fallen cracked a joke about Memento - then they were talkin about comic con... was pretty cool.

Hey ya'll lets play 20 questions with NatalieRomanovs "occupation" . And just to be clear , i freakin love the anonymity i get with this site, but we are all pretty forthcoming with occupations around here already.

I'll start.....

@NataliRomanov- are you a make up artist? now my unnofficial question is ..., if so did we make out in your hotel room the one night you shot in my area and i was one of the mains in segment piece. Do you remember Dinner at J.Lees euro Asia Bistro and then time at my Art GAllery getting a lil liqoured up then playing pool and then to your hotel room. God that was an amazing night. you are such a beautiful memory. I wish i would have met you in London before you left to your next shoot in South America. You know i named my pet scorpion after you...
