Director James Cameron Says Avatar 2 Will Focus on Ocean Issues

His concerns that Earth's oceans are becoming "unsurvivable" for many lifeforms will be the theme of the second movie. He also said there will be other planets besides Pandora.

The director of the highest grossing movie of all time sat down with ABC for an interview in which he discusses a few key details about the sequels to Avatar. He is writing the second and third films in the Avatar franchise at the same time. Surprisingly his comments imply that he hasn't even started the design work on the marine life of Avatar 2.

I really liked it too, even though it was unoriginal and predictable and blah blah..not every movie HAS to have a fresh concept in order to be entertaining. Look at Warrior!

I think Avatar 2 will make its money on the 'we loved Avatar' crowd - Avatar 3 box office will drop considerably after the WOW factor has passed.

Holy Crap! Are earth's oceans becoming unsurvivable?!? Why aren't we doing something about this?!? I mean, for crying out loud, James Cameron is CONCERNED!!!

Avatar sure did look awesome. It was a sight to behold. I'd even put my money on the sequel looking just as awesome. But a remake by any other name is still a remake no mater how good it looks. Don't get me wrong, i like remakes so it'll be worth a watch, at least once.

The Oceans are fine, just wait til the Earth's cooling cycle ends. We'll have fish a plenty.

I loved Avatar. True Cameron probably spent more time on the tech than on the script but it was still pretty sweet, plenty of action and all.
His small track record suggests that we'll get an even better film the second time around, he killed with Aliens and blew us away with Terminator 2.
And although he'll have to focus on the tech this time around the leap forward isn't as big so he should have plenty of time to devote to the story.
Lastly, I never got the hate for Cameron. He's like a fanboy so most of the stuff he does is right up our alley. I would think he'd get the benefit of the doubt from most

@RorMachine Agreed completely, it was really good but pretty predictable/unoriginal.
Looking forward to the sequel, I have a feeling the visuals will be even better this time around.

Hooray. Another environmental PSA. Do us a favor James and try to at least make this one entertaining (like Star Trek IV.)

I didn't think the acting or dialog was bad at all. It wasn't particularly good either, but I never rolled my eyes..which is more than I can say for some scenes in many recent CBMs I might add.

I know, Cameron should just do an Aquaman movie. I could care less about what happens to Jake Sully.

Agreed. If you want an Aquaman movie to work, then get this guy to scrap Avacrap 2 for it. Just off his name alone the movie would likely make 500 million. Throw a shared universe for DC and then the whole world is in love with it.

freebirdsc - 10/18/2011, 12:08 PM
way to nail it rocky...he does kick ass with the sequels...and even tho the movie did have the same concept as frengully n dances with wolves everything that gets put out stole the idea from something else...its just making it your own is what makes it special...avatar was a great movie with great effects...next one will be big too but def not make the money the first one did...just as long as he dont make a titanic 2
