I loved it, he's going to be a great Dr, this episode gave us enough to enjoy his first outing without giving too much away about who he is, we'll just have to keep tuning in...

it was amazing... peter was better than expected and when he finally became himself from transitioning to the new doctor is was just amazing. how dark is he? cant wait to see the rest of the season.

sadly hes not gonna be on the show for long... 2 season max. just cause hes older. the girls wont like him and the younger audience wont like him. hes probably gonna be the last old doctor.

I liked it, but they need to get rid of Jenny, Vastra, and Strax. [frick]ing annoying characters

I really liked it. I'm not sure why anyone watches this now expecting a coherent plot. The show has been cliche and/or convoluted since its inception. You watch it for the main actors and their chemistry together in wild situations.

It was Ok. What I am NOT going to do is judge a season or indeed Mr Capaldi over the first hour and twenty minutes (or however long it was).
Far FAR too soon to know whether he'll be any good in the role. Check any of the DR's new shoe-filling first episodes and they'll not necessarily be their strongest. He'll grow into the part and flex his acting muscles just fine.

Not too good of a story, but Capaldi was cool. I'm becoming less and less of a fan of Moffat. Season 7 of wasn't too good, especially with him taking away 2-part episodes. Then season 3 of Sherlock was pretty bad. And now it is being said that DW Season 8 will have no season mystery arc, which is VERY dissapointing. Of course, Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor were great, but it just seems like Moffat's writing is becoming more lazy. I think we need to get a new show runner who has many new creative ideas. The end of Matt Smith's Doctor should have been Moffat's last work on the series. But hopefully with a new Doctor, that will also bring new, creative ideas to Moffat's head. Its sad as a whovian to see the stories not being to good. Hopefully the future of this series will be good. If not, I'll still be watching of course, but hoping that Moffat hands off the torch, just as Tennant's Doctor did literally in the season 2 episode "Fear Her".

I had a bunch of friends over last night to watch Deep Breath. We all loved it, and had a blast talking about it afterword. I'm really looking forward to the 12th Doctor's adventures. A+ episode in my book.

I also wouldn't mind a Jenny, Vastra, and Strax spin off series. They were awesome in last nights episode. :)

It was amazing! The best episode for me since Snowmen. I really, really loved it.

And I still hope River Song will be back for at least one episode!

I finally started watching 'Doctor Who' a while ago, and I've become a huge fan of the 10th Doctor! I just now reached the first few episodes with Matt Smith, and aside from the addition of the lovely Karen Gillan I'm not very enthused. But I guess that's to be expected after such a long time with Tennant, and with some of the other changes.

I was weird seeing both Gillan and Capaldi in 'The Fires of Pompeii', knowing that one was going to be a companion and the other the 12th Doctor. (*_*)'

Episode was okay. Strax was funny. And why did they butcher the theme song?

First half of the episode was meh, second half (from the robot diner onwards) was fantastic. Capaldi was great.

I love Capaldi in The Thick of It, which is why I gave this another chance, but I just don't get Dr Who at all. I try to watch it when a new series starts, but I'm always put off by the awful cheap special affects, hammy acting, stupid story lines and aliens with Welsh accents.

Not going to bother again I'm afraid.

@Ramiel

Because 'new' - 'hip' - 'rebranding' - 'new direction' - 'aspirational' - 'look how clever we are'

Pathetic designers. totally unnecessary tinkering.
In my opinion it just succeeded in making it LESS iconic.

The opener was changed drastically, like the tone of the overall show, to come full circle to Classic "Who". The theme song has undergone more than one radical change in arrangement before, "Deep Breath".
The Third Doctor's first intro, for instance, or the seventh Doctor's.
Moffat discovered a well made fan opening, and with that fan's permission, used the concept for the new opener. It can be found on Youtube, under 12 doctor intros.
having said all that, the fan's concept intro is superior to the one Moffat had made from it.

I think there desire to make the Doctor dark and edgy went to far. He beat up a homeless man for his coat, left his companion, and as far we know threw the android out of the ship. He is aweful and I can't believe any of you actually liked him. I felt like he had no chemistry with anyone and he just wasn't the Doctor. They tried to make the Doctor with number six and we all know how well that went. I mean the episode as a whole wasn't bad but the Doctor was not the Doctor even a little bit his compassion and his love and protectiveness for his companions wasn't there. He felt way to dark. I will continue to watch but I hope he shows some likable characteristic because I was really upset by the beating up the homeless man for his coat I thought that was disgusting and shameful.

Evidently, you don't know much about the Doctor as a character ^
Calvatron
Calvatron - 8/24/2014, 4:46 PM
There were only two things I didn't like about the episode.

one was how many times they brought up that Vastra and Jenny are married. I have no problem with them being married, but they said it **LIKE 10 TIMES**

The other is the Deus Ex Machina kiss between them at the end, BECAUSE BREATHING DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT. You breathe in oxygen. you breathe out Carbon Dioxide. Vastra could not have shared oxygen. I was facepalming at the scientific inaccuracy.
Hairybacca
Hairybacca - 8/24/2014, 5:10 PM
Actually Azbat, the body is incapable of processing all of the oxygen inhaled within a single breath so quickly, and quite a lot is exhaled. Otherwise people wouldn't be able to hold their breath at all.

That episode definitely didn't hold my attention. I've found with Doctor Who for every good episode, there is at least 1 or 2 bad ones.

Put me in the crowd with those saying that this story was decent but not great, but Capaldi killed it. He's gonna be great.
