The curtain is finally being pulled back on Denis Villeneuve's planned two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel Dune, and during a recent appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show, star Jason Momoa dropped some fresh details about his character Duncan Idaho.

In fact, he even compared him to iconic Star Wars hero, Han Solo, giving him big shoes to fill!

"I get to play this character Duncan Idaho, who's kind of a master swordsman who's made the right hand man to Duke Leto who is Oscar Isaac," the Aquaman star reveals. "He's the first person to be sent out to land on Dune and that's when I meet the character that Javier Bardem plays."

"I can't believe I had a scene with Javier Bardem!" Momoa continued. "It's a pretty massive film and I get to be this little—he’s kind of the Han Solo-esque of the group. He's this rogue warrior who protects Timothée Chalamet and serves Oscar Isaac."

It's certainly sounding like a very different role for Momoa, and after getting used to seeing him as a superhero, it will be exciting watching the actor show off a few other skills on the big screen!

Directed by Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, Dune also stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Zendaya, Stephen Henderson, and Josh Brolin. The movie is currently set to be released on December 18th, 2020.

I don't recall any Han Solo types in Dune... maybe he's trying to dumb it down for people so they will see it?

Duncan in Lynch’s movie had what? 3 lines and 30 seconds of screen time?

Weird comparison, but I think he'll do great in the role regardless.

There have been a lot of buzz words thrown around by the cast and in that Vanity Fair article to make me think all of these comparisons are being made to drum up hype from otherwise disinterested people. This is good, because I want nothing more than this movie to succeed.

This film adaption could be very different from the book adaption, cut the guy some slack.

In the end, he’s more likely to know how Duncan is portrayed in this adaption than any of you - so cut the guy some slack jeees

Duncan is a huge character in the Dune Universe, just not so much in the beginning to temper expectations. If this universe is successful, we'll see lots of Momoa, only if there are sequels.

Jason is charisma personified, honestly.
