DUNE: PART TWO Gets An Honest Trailer Which Doesn't Take It Easy On Denis Villeneuve's Sci-Fi Sequel

While Dune: Part Two has received glowing reviews, but that doesn't mean the Screen Junkies team is going to take it easy on the sci-fi sequel in their latest Honest Trailer. Check it out after the jump...

Dune: Part Two is widely regarded as a sci-fi masterpiece, but the Honest Trailers team has a different take. In their latest skewering, Denis Villeneuve's epic movie comes under fire for a surprisingly long list of reasons.

The "plot armour" surrounding Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides is one of them, as is Dave Bautista's one-note performance (which, in fairness, he made the best of given how limited Beast Rabban is as a character).

That needle-drop piece of the score being used to make relatively mundane scenes more epic is also singled out, but are the criticisms fair? Yes and no. However, before getting too annoyed, it's worth remembering that these Honest Trailers are meant as little more than tongue-in-cheek fun.

We can't disagree with their assessment that Dune: Messiah runs the risk of being a boring movie without some changes, though!

No matter what anyone says about his Dune movies, it was earlier this year that Villeneuve talked about how this job has proven itself a dream come true for him. "I was a nerd," the filmmaker admits. "It’s a book that stayed with me through the years."

"When I came to work here in Los Angeles more than ten years ago, people kept asking me, 'What would be your dream if you could pick one thing in all the world?’'And I kept saying, 'Dune.' I’m still pinching myself that I’ve had the chance to adapt it. It was exciting, it was fun, but it was also brutal, shooting in rough environments that were extremely hard on the crew."

"Every day was a challenge - I said that about Part One, but Part Two was even more so," Villeneuve concluded.

Dune: Part Two: will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

New and returning stars include Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Léa Seydoux, with Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.

Dune: Part Two is still playing in theaters and arrived on Digital earlier this week. You can learn more about its upcoming Blu-ray release here.

I watched it the other night for the first time. I enjoyed it, as I did the first, but I'm not going to pretend I know who is who and what is going on.

Paul Atreides has even more plot armor in the books. He's pretty much omniscient and the fight with Feyd isn't even remotely close

Honest Trailers isn't legit film criticism. It's just there for some sh*ts and giggles.

I watched this in cinema - after not watching the first one in cinema and not really enjoying it, I thought I’d give this one a real chance and watch it on the big screen especially surrounding the hype around it.

It was okay.

It’s a good film, but it’s okay. I wasn’t blown away by it like I was told I would be. Perhaps that’s on me for going in with expectations. But it yeah, it was okay. Not amazing.

Ok, the suit tech "weeeeeeee" stuff was funny as was the Hans Zimmer music que, but they really were trying too hard with this one as there's not much they can fault.

IMO, it's best to watch the movies back to back as the first was also pretty cool but felt like it was lacking something, which is the same for the second. Combined it's a great experience (though lengthy).

I watched it in the hospital earlier this week. Didn’t hate it, but it was kinda boring to me.
